<gchristensen>
there goes my first amazon order in I think a full year... doesn't feel great, but they'll get it here several days before anyone else
<gchristensen>
I would kill for a hackerspace within 20 miles :(
<sphalerite>
gchristensen: found one! :p
<sphalerite>
(uh, that's imperative second person, not indicative first person)
<samueldr>
gchristensen: couldn't you order from canakit directly?
<samueldr>
or adafruit?
<samueldr>
luckily amazon has been trash for ordering here so already I didn't have any kind of dependency other than comparing price and ordering if it was the lowest

my last amazon order was only from amazon because I got a voucher for Christmas
<gchristensen>
nicely done
<samueldr>
though, last time I received stuff "from" amazon was fulfilment for things bought on aliexpress...

I want to be nosy what do you need a pi serial cable for gchristensen ?
<gchristensen>
I'm tired of debugging why things don't boot when my only tool is guessing I got the ssh config right
<samueldr>
+1 for getting a quality serial cable
<samueldr>
it will end up being useful
<samueldr>
pi or not

I don't know why that didn't occur to me when I bought my little hdmi capture plug
<samueldr>
if you end up with a bunch of SBCs to play around, don't hesitate to buy multiple cheap serial interfaces
<samueldr>
(validate them as working and label them once validated)
<samueldr>
(and know that they sometimes aren't assembled properly for the cheapest ones)
<samueldr>
the cheapest ones I own don't have the "structural support" leads of the usb port tacked on to the board
<samueldr>
so it moves around and breaks
<DigitalKiwi>
throw out ones validated not not work since you'll forget to label them
<samueldr>
yes :)
<samueldr>
there's also the option of cheap serial bluetooth adapters
<samueldr>
which I haven't yet looked at
<samueldr>
someone here recently suggested (forgot who)
<samueldr>
this way you can even leave them in-place on the board and just get close with a bluetooth enabled device to inspect
<samueldr>
could be useful if, let's say, it's a garage door opener
