<samueldr> I really don't like how the M1 macbook will seem attractive with marcan's asahi project :(
<samueldr> on the 4GB unit, green LED active as expected after "hanging" (not really) at "Starting kernel ..."
<samueldr> all of this on the untouched sd image (except auto-resize and poweroffs)
<samueldr> responded to ctrl+alt+delete on the usb keyboard
<samueldr> I couldn't reproduce the "Synchronous Abort"
<samueldr> same kernel as misuzu, /boot/extlinux/../nixos/vw8c6pmm21rqyi78zmrb9r00x493n6a2-linux-5.4.79-1.20201201-Image
<samueldr> which makes this twice as annoying!
<samueldr> I want this to fail just like it does for y'all!
<samueldr> (obviously) misuzu's revision is different (1.4) since it's the 8GB variant
<samueldr> but makefu's being a 1.1 4GB variant, like mine AFAICT, completely baffles me
* samueldr just realised
<samueldr> after looking at the error makefu reported, it's not the same

<Ke> sphalerite: what modules do you have in initrd

<sphalerite> Ke: very few. I'm using the downstream 4.19 kernel as packaged by thefloweringash though, so I'm not sure it's relevant to you
<sphalerite> I don't think I actually need any of them
<Ke> obsolete kernel make Ke sad =o(
<sphalerite> yeah, I'll be trying a proper one later
<Ke> I guess I want at least module to make luks decrypt and video and keyboard
<sphalerite> there's just a whole bunch of things on my todo list for the honeycomb and that's not at the top ^^
<sphalerite> ah yeah, I don't have luks that needs to be unlocked for boot
<Ke> well I have whole nixos desktop experience to create
<sphalerite> nor do I have a graphics card in it, nor have I ever attached a keyboard
<sphalerite> fair
<sphalerite> If you get an image built and want it tested, let me know :)
<Ke> pcmanfm is beoyond broken and is amazingly hard to replace
<sphalerite> oh wait I don't have a graphics card
<Ke> nah, I mostly just want a module list
<Ke> I can ask people to lsmod for me

<Ke> I could check generate-config if it somehow displays, what I can filter out
<Ke> I guess anything sound or networking can go
<Ke> is generate config module list generation just som trivial filter for lsmod?
sorki is now known as srk
<Ke> foreach my $path (glob "/sys/class/{block,mmc_host}/") {
<sphalerite> that's pretty much what nixos-generate-config does I think
<sphalerite> (or is that from nixos-generate-config?)
<Ke> yes
<samueldr> I wonder what could make that samsung (exynos) device fail to start in that way... "A start job is running for Journal Service" same image that works on other devices
<samueldr> hm, maybe the persistent storage vanished?
<samueldr> "Dependency failed for Flush Journal to Persistent Storage"
<Ke> are all mounts ok?
<samueldr> they should be, from stage-1, but I have zero eyes into stage-2
<Ke> well I guess that was your question
<samueldr> other than the console
<Ke> maybe configure journald to do only volatile logging for now?
<samueldr> or, I should say, I have only the VT to peer into, no login prompt, no ssh
<samueldr> that'll be hard without a system to rebuild :)
<samueldr> (I'll build an image I guess)
<samueldr> cw: old kernels I should check with another 3.18 device
<samueldr> first exynos device, maybe there's something odd with their storage
<samueldr> and the filesystem should all be in order, it's been e2fsck'd in stage-1, before being expanded
<samueldr> (and the image does work on other phones)
<samueldr> boots fine on another 3.18 device... that will be a mystery to investigate tomorrow
<sphalerite> setting up the honeycomb with tmpfs as root :D
<samueldr> are we tomorrow yet?
<samueldr> I had an idea to check for an updated release, as lineageOS' is old... for ancient kernel standard
<samueldr> TWRP had a more up-to-date version
<samueldr> and it works
<sphalerite> yay!
<sphalerite> The fan speed is a lot more consistent when building a kernel, now that I'm booting from eMMC

<LinuxHackerman> Fixed the build, but it didn't boot. Needs some more work…
<LinuxHackerman> In the meantime, I'm having an odd issue with networking. The Gigabit Ethernet port works fine when booting from the USB stick, but not when booting from eMMC. It worked previously, but now even old generations from eMMC don't seem to have working networking.
<LinuxHackerman> The messages from u-boot before the kernel starts are different https://gist.github.com/lheckemann/9c885d8a9a91ef6fe1d5bf76a53c9f21
<LinuxHackerman> If anyone has any ideas why this might be, please let me know!

<LinuxHackerman> wtf, now I've installed a new generation on the USB stick and now I don't have ethernet (even on older generations) on that either :(

<LinuxHackerman> plus both the working boot log and the not-working one show that the kernels are loaded relative to the extlinux dir
