with the caveat that I perpetually throw away money on unused domains I've forgotten about, I think my shortest is a 6-letter meaningful domain hack
<abathur>
but I've never really tried to get a short one, per se

cole-h: .stockholm's the longest I've seen used probably
<FireFly>
it weirded me out a bit when I came across a page under it a while back
<supersandro2000>
story how I got that domain: I run whois and dig for a week and collected a list of free domains. I did not want one with qq and s6o was the best fit. the 6 is technically a bit wrong because it would need to be 4 but the whole word is 6 so it fits somehow

literally happened to me yesterday

Nice
<infinisil>
Is there like a lesson from this post or is it just a good story?
<aleph->
Just a good story I guess
<aleph->
And also brush up on automata theory?
<aleph->
And go re-read apyrhs stuff
<pie_>
aleph-: lost it at touring machines
<pie_>
infinisil: you *do* know about X-ing the technical interview, right? ;P
<aleph->
Heheheh
<ajs124>
I remember reading something about someone that started solving fizzbuzz with tensorflow in an interview, once
<aleph->
Yeah that's the good stuff right there
<aleph->
ajs124: God :D
<pie_>
oh hey this got interviewed by hillel huh? i know who that is
<pie_>
freudian slip, *reviewed
<ajs124>
The interviewee obviously did that "ironically", because fizzbuzz was already a trope back then. That and I assume the story was made up, to begin with.

tbh, these days im starting to think the people in these stories are real and trans

this post is asking to be at least 1.5x as long as it actually is

the threads of fate converged too quickly

Honestly I've just begun stockpiling baroque fails to do fizz buzz and the like because of these. :D
<pie_>
nix sounds pretty good for that
<pie_>
calling profpa---damn he's not in here

who is the one being interviewed here? :P
<elvishjerricco>
TIL you can still get pink eye sitting in your home alone for 3 weeks...
<abathur>
nice
<samueldr>
ah, it's one of those ... afflictions? ... where a common name describes the symptoms of multiple different causes
supersandro2000 has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<elvishjerricco>
Yea there's like a billion kinds apparently. Got to talk to a doc about it today and he was just like "Yea it's pink eye here's a prescription for some eye drops."
<samueldr>
I had to check, since english names don't always map to other languages
<abathur>
english names don't even always map to other englishes
<samueldr>
yeah
* infinisil
looks up what a pink eye is
<abathur>
it's roughly as-advertised
<elvishjerricco>
infinisil: If you ever want your eye(s) to be itchy and in pain for a day to two weeks, this is for you
<samueldr>
I would hazard a guess that "conjunctivitis" would be closer to what you expect
<infinisil>
Oh it looks just like red eyes, but a bit more
<abathur>
my fav is waking up with them crusted shut
<elvishjerricco>
makes it all pink and different kinds may or may not cause it to discharge one kind of mucus or another
<elvishjerricco>
The thing that I believe classifies all of them is that it's transmitted by direct contact to the eye(lids). So like someone who has it touches their eye then shakes your hand and you touch your eye.
<samueldr>
I doubt it because of the allergen one
<elvishjerricco>
Did not know about those
<samueldr>
it's really a symptom thing, AFAIUI
<samueldr>
(IANAD)
<elvishjerricco>
Makes sense
<pie_>
most medical diagnoses seem to be a symptom thing :I
<pie_>
at least thats what i get from reading wikipedia
<elvishjerricco>
That might explain how I got it just sitting at home for weeks :P
<DigitalKiwi>
ajs124: lars of scala?
<ajs124>
DigitalKiwi: I think so, yes
<DigitalKiwi>
they used to have me blocked on twitter lol
<DigitalKiwi>
that one at least i can think of reasons why >.>
<aleph->
pie_: Hmmmm. I should use nix for this.
<ajs124>
DigitalKiwi: I've never quite managed to wrap my head around twitter
<DigitalKiwi>
careful those are dangerous thoughts
<ajs124>
Anyone else here using styx btw? :D
<DigitalKiwi>
i considered it but went with hakyll and some nix shell
<DigitalKiwi>
ajs124: so like 90% of people i know of that blocked me on twitter i've never even talked to; i found out one of them it was because they used a block list that got poisoned by TERFS that was supposed to block TERFs/nazis
<DigitalKiwi>
it always amuses me that a lot of the people that i'm aware of are scala programmers and i find out about the block through side effects
<lovesegfault>
you can see all it's disco glory here
<samueldr>
where's the disco ball?
<samueldr>
the big dance floor with light up squares?
<samueldr>
the big afros?
<lovesegfault>
:P
<lovesegfault>
My wife banned the good part of the disco
<samueldr>
the loud music?
<lovesegfault>
banned
<Ke>
drunken people vomiting on the floor?
<lovesegfault>
That she allows
<samueldr>
obviously, you can't dance
<samueldr>
even if it was allowed
<siraben>
DigitalKiwi: Haskell is the only way
<siraben>
well it has its fair share of problems and plenty of potential improvements, quoting SPJ, "the next Haskell, if there is one, will be strict, but pure"
waleee-cl has quit [Quit: Connection closed for inactivity]
<Ke>
+1 for strict
<Ke>
not sure, if it can win rust anymore
<siraben>
I'd like to see a smaller Rust-like language, maybe that's just ML with references and affine types
<siraben>
maybe i should have proved it on paper first
<siraben>
but for proving stuff about numbers it's the most frustrating thing ever because part of it is rewriting with various associativity and commutativity laws
