eyJhb: Did you set your list on fire and had to run water to put the fire out and then only had two things left?
<joepie91>
that's the most efficient way to resolve a todo list
<__monty__>
I just write mine on the windows when they fog up. Sure it'll come back to haunt you every so often but most of the time you couldn't even look at it if you wanted to.

lol, notarzizing is probably the most condescending choice of vocabulary there. like you need some super cool software court to tell you what's ok to be used on your machine.
<__monty__>
I like how they chose jargon from a profession that people already contempt.

cransom: nextcloud vs. owncloud?
<cransom>
eyJhb: there was a fork a couple years ago due to some fiscal/political conflicts. from my understanding, most of the devs went to nextcloud and it's more active than own cloud.
<eyJhb>
Last time I tried OwnCloud it synced for three weeks
<eyJhb>
For all I know it is still going, that is what scared me away from such things
<cransom>
self hosted? i've had a few hundred gigs transfer in a few hours without any drama.
<cransom>
that was running locally though.
<eyJhb>
Somewhat, I think it was some cPanel BS...
<eyJhb>
Can I get it to sync to multiple locations? Currently I somewhat like Syncthing, even though it is somewhat ... lets say special ... in the way it handles "only sync over WiFi", as I cannot access anything if I am on celluar
<cransom>
you can select items for offline cache. you can opt to only use wifi in the ios client, but it's not enforced. it's a plain old http transaction (syncthing is peer to peer still, right? heavier and data heavy)
<__monty__>
How does a properly implemented feature make it "special?"
<gchristensen>
I was bummed to see no syncthing for ios
<eyJhb>
__monty__: because I would assume when I say it shouldn't sync while on anything besides WiFi, that I can still manage its settings
<eyJhb>
But I can pretty much only enable sync on 3g, etc.
<cransom>
the nextcloud i'm using is on a machine behind me via `services.nextcloud.enable = true;`.
<__monty__>
eyJhb: That does seem rather obtuse.
<gchristensen>
really that is it?
<eyJhb>
I can check, but I can't manage folders etc.
<eyJhb>
I can only say "edit setting" or "exit"
<eyJhb>
Let me check
<cransom>
there's a number of other things you want in there, it's not just enable, no.
<cransom>
but for the configuration itself, its mostly just pointing it at a db if you aren't using sqlite.
<eyJhb>
I can change settings, or exit
<gchristensen>
cransom: what does the on-disk file storage look like?
<eyJhb>
And I do not expect it to start syncthing, until WiFi is active, but I would expect that I would be able to change e.g. a folder or browse it (as it has it offline anyways)
<eyJhb>
*not browse
<cransom>
gchristensen: on a machine? normally replicated files as if you did an rsync or something like that.
<eyJhb>
But why shouldn't I be able to edit e.g. the pull order etc.
<gchristensen>
hmm cool
<cransom>
you can mount webdav if you want as well to not copy the files.
<qyliss>
train days are so good for my productivity
<qyliss>
i have been on trains for the past 15 hours and i have got so much done
<gchristensen>
:o
<eyJhb>
qyliss: do you not sleep at all?
<qyliss>
eyJhb: I slept a bunch while on the trains as well
<qyliss>
but also, I'll sleep when I arrive
<qyliss>
(in an hour or so)
<eyJhb>
Where are you headed?
<qyliss>
Edinburgh, from Berlin
<eyJhb>
Why not flying?
<eyJhb>
Why not fly?* I guess
<qyliss>
if I flew everywhere I took trains I would have the carbon footprint of a small country
<qyliss>
also trains are fun
<qyliss>
you don't have to spend nearly as much time standing around waiting
<qyliss>
there's barely any security, and when there is (UK border), it's so much easier than flying
<__monty__>
And you wouldn't get through security?
<eyJhb>
Well... I would say that it would still be smaller than some... - Some countries really have to get their shit together soon
<__monty__>
Is it a fear of flying thing?
<qyliss>
no, not at all
<qyliss>
I used to fly
<qyliss>
and was fine with it
<qyliss>
then I reevaluated things and realised that flying just sucks in comparison
<eyJhb>
I think that my professor would get nothing done, if he took the train as much
<eyJhb>
But that is also because he is a expert in having meetings in Berlin, CPH, AArhus, Aalborg in the same day
<qyliss>
also, I can buy unlimited European rail travel for 3 months at a time for relatively little money, and then just take as many trains as I want, without even needing to plan much in advance in most cases

I can go to NixCon and RustFest and Congress and a bunch of other things all in one ticket for cheap, especially since I can usually find somebody to crash with.
<eyJhb>
Do you get a +1 as well qyliss ? ;)
<qyliss>
My situation is pretty unique for a bunch of reasons though -- it wouldn't be quite as good as this for most people
<qyliss>
eyJhb: sadly not :P
<eyJhb>
Damn... :p - Would love NixCon, but no money, no money and no time..
<eyJhb>
Also trying to find a place to crash the week after in CPH! *looking at srhb and johanot*
<eyJhb>
Anyways, night night!

night!

Trains are the best
<gchristensen>
it takes me 6 hours to take a train 140mi
<gchristensen>
(225km)
<samueldr>
I wouldn't be the first one to talk about north american rails :/
<gchristensen>
and that train (the only train at my local station) leaves at ~4pm and comes back at 12:50pm
<samueldr>
it somehow takes longer than the bus departing at the same location, to go basically in a straight line to montreal
