pie_[bnc]: I have a couple of lightning talks on that
<pie_[bnc]>
neat
<MichaelRaskin>
Well, some of the things I mention there are exact opposite of neat!
<MichaelRaskin>
pie_[bnc]: BTW, I do run this crazy mix of a system now
<pie_[bnc]>
MichaelRaskin: i do recall seeing some of your stuff and wanting to look at it more
<pie_[bnc]>
i thought you said you dont still run it thouh
<MichaelRaskin>
It might have been about the previous iteration
<MichaelRaskin>
Also, I might have answered a more specific question, like whether my PID1 is in Lisp (no, I use sinit, because my PID1 should _not_ do anything smart)
<pie_[bnc]>
<terpri> as it happens, last week i started working on packaging the vlm for guix (just needed an nfs service and a few other additions)
<pie_[bnc]>
<terpri> 1. make genera usable on modern gnu/linux systems 2. liberate the source code 3. ???
<pie_[bnc]>
no idea whats going on but just happened to see this in guix;
<pie_[bnc]>
<terpri> fun fact: as of february 2018, the federal government apparently has full rights to the genera source code, so step 2 is theoretically possible if one finds the right person to petition...
<MichaelRaskin>
Oh wow
<MichaelRaskin>
That would be indeed interesting

I think that would annoy people tohugh

Diogenes-: azul, it's a gui framework for rust that uses webrender. it's really cool, except the layout solver is so broken right now that most of the examples don't even work
<Diogenes->
Nod
<ashkitten>
tbh i partly just want to prove that browser engines aren't the problem, it's mutable doms and javascript that's the problem
<ashkitten>
azul has an immutable dom model that rebuilds the entire dom every frame, which apparently takes only microseconds compared to web browsers where making changes to the dom with many elements might take many milliseconds
* pie_[bnc]
mumbles something about purely functional data structures, no idea whats going on in your case
<ashkitten>
yeah it's that
<pie_[bnc]>
they are cool

<drakonis1>
so the guix folks have extended an invitation for nix folks to show up at their guix days if they're in fosdem
<drakonis1>
i suppose there'll be nix folks on fosdem, right?
<gchristensen>
I think Eelco often goes to Guix things
<LnL>
oh that reminds me, perhaps there could be something interesting here for the nixos infra
