<andi->
infinisil: rule oft thumb is 1 month for backports. 18.09 was released 6th october as a user I would still expect some things to be backported.
<andi->
Scrap that.. I am 6 months off.. /me needs breakfast
<infinisil>
andi-: How are you 6 months off?
<andi->
Oh I am not.. m(
* andi-
shuts up until after breakfast
<gchristensen>
^.^
<infinisil>
Hehe
<infinisil>
Although, if the rule is one month for backports, then we're already over that, because the branchoff was one month before the release at the start of September. We've been doing backports to 2 branches for almost 2 months now..
<gchristensen>
1mo after release
<infinisil>
Yeah, but still
<gchristensen>
I'm inclined to think the backport period will only grow from here :)
<infinisil>
I'd rather have an LTS release of sorts every 2 years or so
<andi->
I am toying with the idea of trying to support it longer for arbitrary reasons.. On the other hand there is already enough work..
<gchristensen>
andi-: don't go it alone :)
<andi->
gchristensen: yeah :)
<gchristensen>
LTS releases and 2yr support is way way hard
<andi->
I wasn't thinking 2y but maybe trying 1y or 10m..
<infinisil>
gchristensen: I feel like that's something companies would want, right?
<gchristensen>
yeah, but slightly chicken-and-egg since we would basically need to pay a(t least one) salary to do it
<adisbladis>
infinisil: Yeah. But we're already stretched thin as it is
<LnL>
yeah exactly
<adisbladis>
I don't think anyone is against LTS relesases, it's just not feasible right now
<infinisil>
Yeah agreed, but I'll think of it as an eventual goal
<gchristensen>
+1 definitely yes
<andi->
I have the feeling companies want LTS but actually not not always need it.. Also agree that it is not feasible without FT commitment
<gchristensen>
to any companies listening, PM me and we can start thinking about this :)
<ekleog>
hmm… is /options.html no longer bound to 18.09? the nextcloud backport has been merged 6 days ago, howoldis states that the last bump of 18.09 is 3 days ago, but there's nothing in the /options.html about nextcloud?
<adisbladis>
ekleog: Did you look at the commit date?
<ekleog>
uh wait… has it been merged or is it just github doing nonsense?
<ekleog>
nah it looks like the module is actually present on nixos/release-18.09, but not yet in the commit by howoldis… well, I guess I misunderstand something about dates, then :)
<adisbladis>
ekleog: Yeah the dates in howoldis are when the channel progressed, not when the commit was made (iirc)
<ekleog>
ooh 'k, thanks :)
<ekleog>
yeah, last commit is 9 days ago inded
