<lopsided98> Could someone take a look at https://github.com/NixOS/nixpkgs/pull/45890 ? It was reviewed about a month ago, but seems to have been overlooked since then

<gchristensen> samueldr: both 18.09 channels have moved forward
<vcunat> gchristensen: you don't know about anything blocking the release?
<{^_^}> nixos-artwork#36 (by mogorman, 2 weeks ago, open): adding artwork for 18.09 release
<{^_^}> nixos-homepage#244 (by samueldr, 15 hours ago, open): Release 18.09
<gchristensen> I'm working on updating the Packet.net images to for 18.09 now
<vcunat> I don't have permissions in these repos.
<gchristensen> same
<gchristensen> it isn't clear to me if niksnut would like to be here for the release or if he doesn't feel sentimental about them
<gchristensen> I'd bet samueldr would like to be here for it
<FRidh> gchristensen: could you restart the following job? Hash seems to work correctly loclly https://hydra.nixos.org/build/82524806
<gchristensen> FRidh: done
<gchristensen> niksnut: ping: 18.09 is about ready to release. Do you want to be around for it? if Rob is around, is it ok if he merges the homepage PR without you?
<gchristensen> back in ~45min, maybe less
<vcunat> Me and Samuel don't have twitter access, too AFAIK.
<FRidh> by the way, I like to backport a bunch of mass rebuild fixes. Use the staging branch, or release?
<vcunat> FRidh: rather staging-18.09
<vcunat> in case we wanted to get something small fast into the channel
<niksnut> gchristensen: yeah I can merge
<niksnut> I don't have twitter access though
<gchristensen> ok I just pinged samueldr via other methods, maybe we can get this done
<samueldr> hi o/
* samueldr isn't a morning person
<gchristensen> samueldr: any final steps?
<samueldr> gchristensen: making the tag
<gchristensen> great! vcunat, niksnut maybe stay available to do final steps?
<niksnut> sure
<samueldr> vcunat: anything I missed in the release, written or not in chapter 40?
<vcunat> I had looked at that. I think only the tag is missing.
<samueldr> it now isn't
<samueldr> then I guess it's publishing time
<vcunat> OK. Released yesterday :-)
<{^_^}> nixos-artwork#36 (by mogorman, 2 weeks ago, open): adding artwork for 18.09 release
<samueldr> oh right, the PR wasn't merged

<gchristensen> niksnut: ready to merge :)
<vcunat> +1
<samueldr> so give or tak 10 minutes and the site will update, thanks niksnuti
<gchristensen> niksnut: samueldr: vcunat: website has updated, looks like things are live :)
<vcunat> gchristensen: downloads still point to cloudfront - that's intended?
<gchristensen> yeah
<gchristensen> maybe change that later
<vcunat> That's an exception only for the channels, right?
<gchristensen> that is actually a totally different S3 bucket and cloudfront distribution
<vcunat> Yes, I don't know why it's been always separate.
<gchristensen> bulk-heading maybe, so fewer places with access to the cache
<vcunat> I suppose noone here knows Azure #36262
<{^_^}> https://github.com/NixOS/nixpkgs/issues/36262 (by Rizary, 30 weeks ago, open): Azure version of NixOS blob
<vcunat> At the very least it looks rotten on the site (to me).
<gchristensen> agreed

<vcunat> Hmm, Darwin queue is rather long and half the mac builders do nothing, including the one that's physically mine.
<vcunat> It seems not bad ATM, but over long term it will be slowing staging(-next) iterations significantly. Now that we doubled aarch64 power, Darwin will be clearly the bottleneck even if all the builders work hard.
<edef> if anyone has a moment, https://github.com/NixOS/nixpkgs/pull/47971 could use merging (i'm the package maintainer)
<{^_^}> #47971 (by edef1c, 8 hours ago, open): solvespace: 2.3-20170808 -> 2.3-20180906
<vcunat> OK
<srhb> vcunat: The ones that don't have jobs all appear to be automatically disabled due to failures right now...
<vcunat> Where do you see that?
<vcunat> Oh, why's there no visible link to such useful pages :-)
<srhb> vcunat: eg lastFailure 1538865552 (5m ago) 4 consecutive failures, disabled for half an hour or so...
<srhb> vcunat: Hydra is meant to be explored with a metaphorical blindfold, to sharpen the experience...
<vcunat> Well that confirms the theory that the machines are needing some maintenance.
<srhb> Indeed.
<srhb> Some logs will certainly help to ascertain why we're at half capacity or so
<gchristensen> ooooohhh
<gchristensen> vcunat: I saw some emails about problems with macs, unfortunately I'm a bit afk due to family medical issues. I'll hopefully have some time tomorrow to take a look, or the day before.
<vcunat> The day before tomorrow? :-)
<gchristensen> ehhh after. this last week has been ... amazingly ... exhausting.
<vcunat> I don't think this is high priority.
<vcunat> Especially compared to family medical issues.
<gchristensen> it feels good to do _not_ family stuff from time to time :) all of this section was a by-product of that: https://nixos.org/nixpkgs/manual/#sec-functions-library-attrset
<vcunat> Good for the project too, to be sure.
<vcunat> Oh, so the slow speed on darwin apparently persisted over most of this week at least.
<gchristensen> seems so
<gchristensen> physical access to the macs is a challenge, and some of them need a reinstall
<vcunat> Well if t2m is among those, I have time on Sunday.
<gchristensen> macs are annoying :)
<vcunat> I also have a spare 4 GiB RAM module, if that would help. (It has 2+2 ATM.)
<gchristensen> I'll do some checking in to the hw when I can
<gchristensen> also https://hydra.nixos.org/queue-runner-status is good data :) right now I'm scraping some HTML pages.
<vcunat> copumpkin: ^^ - in case you have permissions and time for the macs
<vcunat> TL;DR: half of the Hydra's builders don't seem to work
