Hi, how can I create a directory, say /kittens, programmatically in my configuration.nix?

<RetardedOnion>
do any of you have strong opinions against guix?
<gchristensen>
guix is cool
the has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<RetardedOnion>
as far as i can see the language is a bit easier but software is scarce
<gchristensen>
well its scheme

The other reason the software is scarce is that guix tries to adhere more to GNU ideals
<maurer>
so you're only going to get things that match their definition of what freedom is
<RetardedOnion>
xfce is 6 years old, no official whiskermenu, kde isnt there, anything else isnt there.
<maurer>
(which is even more restrictive than what nix will give you without the allowUnfree doohickey set)
<maurer>
Well, for things that match GNU policy, you can be the change you want to see in the world
<maurer>
gchristensen: I see that the has become more adept, and is now detecting the spammers _before_ they spam :P
<gchristensen>
:)
<gchristensen>
not quite time travel, but before it gets _here_ yes :D
<RetardedOnion>
i actually agree with them, its just not a perfect choice for anyone. i think i could live with that. if amd wasnt so shit and requires blobs for their graphicscards
<gchristensen>
kde is really really hard to package
<gchristensen>
so much software
<RetardedOnion>
nonfree software is easy and just spread around gits. its hard to find but available
<RetardedOnion>
gchristensen: i get that. still my favorite DE and the reason why i am not considering guix at the moment
<maurer>
RetardedOnion: Sure, but nonfree will not end up in guixsd itself by policy
<gchristensen>
sure
<maurer>
It's not like guix somehow prohibits it as a language :P
<RetardedOnion>
yep. that sucks because you cant find the software easily.
<maurer>
The counterpoint to be made is that you can install software randomly and know you always have a set of rights w/rspt to it
<RetardedOnion>
free software has its disadvantages. i know.
<srk>
list-generations also show diff of package versions
<srk>
s
<gchristensen>
maurer: the is now in many large channels to use as spam listeners to preemptively ban here
<maurer>
Ah. I had suspected you might have done a classifier on usernames, given the similarities
<maurer>
but that works too
<RetardedOnion>
srk: guix feels like a refined nix for me. though i am very new to both. the clear disadvantage is software available and the "free software only" model
<srk>
yeah, depends on your needs I guess
<RetardedOnion>
i need kde to survive.
<srk>
shouldn't be too hard to pull nix/nixpkgs to the mix :D
<gchristensen>
maurer: I'm not interested in investing that much in to `the` today :P
<RetardedOnion>
it isnt. you can actually just install nix on top of guix to run kde/any nix application. nix to guix conversion is possible, other way around not always(at least that is what one weired guy on telegram told me). but i wont install nix on top of guixsd because that feels like incest.
<gchristensen>
well, guix is the spawn of nix, so it isn't so far off
<srk>
gchristensen: I'm a bit surprised there's no way to do network level filtering on freenode
<RetardedOnion>
i know. it looks a bit more refined.
<srk>
like at least be able to set filters with some expiration time and advertise these to clients too
<gchristensen>
srk: freenode has pretty sophisticated systems afaik to handle spam, but also how do you handle a large botnet of infected routers without impacting real people
<srk>
yeah, not easy I guess
<RetardedOnion>
humans were a mistake
<srk>

it's been stupidly hot here all day as well.. that is this? This isn't Germany anymore /o\
<samueldr>
and everyone else, this is much closer to be "ready"
<samueldr>
as for english differences (sation/zation), I lately found a resource about its use, according to "Public Works and Goverment Services Canada / Travaus publics et Services gouvernementaux Canada"
<samueldr>
I knew about the differences, but finding something concrete about *elsewhere* than US/GB is interesting

<joepie91>
gchristensen: where's that
<clever>
samueldr: what i do, is compare the uid's that own temp dirs in /tmp/nix-build* and the outputs in /nix/store/, that may save you from needing root
<samueldr>
clever: will look into that once I do more builds
<samueldr>
that would be great not having to peek into their env
<samueldr>
it's safe to assume only one build per user at a time I guess
<clever>
yeah
<clever>
related, i have seen some users add themself to nixbld to try and "fix" problems

does it also kill processes before?
