It is such a great show off about the current state of the embargo things.. We are handing the security of our systems to Intel. They can decide who gets protections (azure, amazon, google,...).. During the past weeks I've really started to be annoyed by the way of doing embargo's in OSS. Some Distris/Oses always feel entitled that they get them all beforehand and call anyone that acts on public knowledge
<andi->
as being too late..
<andi->
sir_guy_carleton: maybe, don't know

He sounded kind of drunk

Its 8am and I am fully grumpy already.. m(

<gchristensen>
I'm considering turning my email upside down
<gchristensen>
in that my filtering filters _out_ junk, and maybe what would be nicer is a whitelist approach
<tazjin>
gchristensen: I used the GDPR spam wave to unsubscribe from basically everything I don't care about
<tazjin>
it was very helpful
<gchristensen>
I didn't get such a spam wave :/
<gchristensen>
or maybe I did and it was hidden behind the hundreds of messages I get a day :P
<__monty__>
gchristensen: Sounds like a terrible idea, you'd have to go through all of the junk to check whether you missed something important, no?
<gchristensen>
well I don't go through the "not junk" as it is
<__monty__>
Have you looked at notmuch? Some heavy mail users swear by it.
<gchristensen>
yeah
<gchristensen>
my notmuch filter script is a mile long
<__monty__>
Ouch, too much mail for notmuch? Wouldn't wanna be ya ; )
<gchristensen>
it is why I'm considering flipping the logic :D
<samueldr>
isntead of two piles, three piles? probably junk / probably not junk but not good / good stuff

my computer hit 0% battery, 00:00:00 remaining the moment I plugged it in ... and it stayed on

<infinisil>
When my battery is at 0%, one of two things will happen: Either it shuts down, or it jumps up to 40-50% and I'll have another hour..
<__monty__>
Lithium roulette?
<gchristensen>
infinisil: sounds likee you need to let it run out of power to adjust its battery expectations
<infinisil>
Oh it is constantly running out of power hah, have tried that (unintentionally) many times

<joepie91>
so, in today's news
<joepie91>
one of the wheels on my IKEA desk chair broke
<joepie91>
... again
<joepie91>
it's now a reproducible failure, and I've tracked down what causes it
<joepie91>
and this is going to be an expensive endeavour for IKEA because this chair has a 10 year warranty and the MTBF so far is 1 year
<joepie91>
and they don't stock replacement parts, they just replace whole units
<makefu>
i think nobody in QA actually tried to roll around with the chair. It is like a feature in software nobody cared about but then there is this one customer :D
<joepie91>
heh
<joepie91>
makefu: it's weird though, this chair is specifically marketed for intensive office usage
<joepie91>
and has been for years
<joepie91>
either this is a recent cost-cutting measure and they haven't collected much feedback yet, or they are *bleeding* replacement units
<makefu>
maybe they think of some very `boring` intensive office usage or where you do do not move at all because you are working so hard on the computer. i have an electric brush which regularly breaks after 1 year because water gets through to the motor and battery. for some reason the company extended the warranty from 2 to 3 years which i do not really understand because they MUST know that the return rate is
<makefu>
somewhere between 80 and 90 percent after 1 year
<makefu>
or maybe they do not care about returns and just want happy customers or the margin is that big that they easily can supply 10 of these for one sold

<samueldr>
for most "modern" engineering of cheap disposable stuff, it's expected that there will be returns for a certain percentage for the harsher users, but it's optimizes cheapness so that most won't break during warranty, good ol' bathtub curve
<joepie91>
samueldr: sure, but this is a pretty much inevitable failure mode
<joepie91>
even for irregular chair movements
<joepie91>
on an expensive chair that's marketed for intensive office use with a massive warranty and where they can only replace whole units
<samueldr>
eh, most chairs are bought for looking fine in an office :)
<joepie91>
even when optimizing for bathtub curves this seems uneconomic
<samueldr>
this was a general comment, and not specific to your issue
<samueldr>
(my comment about looking fine was in jest)
<joepie91>
right :P
<samueldr>
I would assume it's a fun design misfeature :D
<joepie91>
anyway, on the advice of a friend I bought some replacement casters
<joepie91>
'rollerblade casters'
<joepie91>
compatible with my chair
<joepie91>
(and more generically with 10mm caster chairs)
<joepie91>
did have to resort to amazon.de though, it seems that rollerblade casters just are not a thing in NL

really missing an "merge when tests succeed button"... Verified a bunch of stuff before ofborg was done with evaluating and then I have the habit of forgetting about that browser tab :/
<lassulus>
maybe the bot should hightlight the person who started it after finishing?
<sphalerite>
it already comments with the build result so that person should get a notification anyway
