about what I asked: might not be useful in the end, so don't bother :/

THIS GUY! :(

LP?
<makefu>
laptop probably?

<worldofpeace>
cole-h: I've become less fond of terms like "EOL" (end of life) because I've had at least one person with a history of suicidality mention their sensitivity to the term (even if it's in the software context). I could change my mind tho
<cole-h>
I can understand that.
<MichaelRaskin>
I guess the least emotionally loaded would be «update discontinuation»
nullheroes has quit [Quit: WeeChat 2.9]
<joepie91>
MichaelRaskin: that doesn't seem like a good replacement to me. it's long to type, not easily unambiguously abbreviatable, and "discontinuation" is a difficult word for non-native speakers
<joepie91>
"end of updates" would work a lot better for example, but that then has the problem that "there are no more updates" is not considered by a lot of people to be a reason to stop using it
<MichaelRaskin>
As someone with a Slavic native language, I guess it is more printed-vs-spoken than native-vs-non-native distinction
<MichaelRaskin>
To be fair, on a non-network-connected device it is actually not!
<joepie91>
I'm kinda counting beyond-fluent speakers as native speakers here :P
<MichaelRaskin>
«Unpatched vulnerabilities» is probably the most truthful description
<eyJhb>
<Now Totally Insecure, and you will get hacked>
<eyJhb>
NTIGH
<eyJhb>
Or just, <Totally Insecure, Get Hacked> TIGH
<joepie91>
MichaelRaskin: "but my distro patches them for me!!1!"
<eyJhb>
Wait, that would not work.
<joepie91>
it's kind of annoying how little people understand the process behind the discovery and fixing of security issues
<MichaelRaskin>
joepie91: I was speaking of official distro state, actually
<joepie91>
like, if you're not aware that a huge chunk of security research consists of third-party reports of some sort, it's not obvious that "distro backports patches" is not equivalent to "still a supported version"
<MichaelRaskin>
Some people consider Sway secure software, what can you do
<samueldr>
>> No longer needed by me, I have way too many devices
<samueldr>
from the listing

I assume bqv has too many devices

i found this quite amusing; https://medium.com/message/deathhacks-b767903b7c15 I work doing a lot of things nowadays, mostly in technology. One of my workplaces is moving to an Agile software development process where working software is prioritized over comprehensive documentation. It’s a lot more fun to build and refine complicated systems than to outline and explain to other people how they work, I get that. But if anyone but you,
<pie_>
anyone you care about, is going to be using your systems ever, a certain amount of documentation can be a great gift to those who manage your afterlife life.
