<ashkitten>
the reason i don't use the busybox `beep` command for this is because it reopens the device node for every new tone, which means when the device node disappears during the stage-2 handoff it cuts off
<srhb>
... I didn't know I needed that >_>
<samueldr>
just wanted to share an uplifting good news
<samueldr>
I know how to play with the RGB LEDs on the razer phone 2's back
<samueldr>
bad news is I still don't have a UI going :)
<samueldr>
but final good news is I know where to go from here and it's something we'll need for all devices
<samueldr>
oops, more meant for -aarch64
<samueldr>
we'll need for all new devices*
<ashkitten>
:D
<samueldr>
all newer devices are (likely?) to need DRM for showing anything on the display
<samueldr>
(the good kind of DRM)
<samueldr>
so uh... grep your kernel logs for DRM before making a port for now :)
<ashkitten>
ooh
<samueldr>
that's why I was asking for a DRM hello world
<samueldr>
in case someone needs it, simple, self-contained
<samueldr>
it even shows me a useful data point about quirkiness: double-buffering will be needed

Guess that host just will not be updated. Runnig a garbarge collect results in 200 MB spare freed up...
<eyJhb>
AHA! Nuked the old generatinos
<eyJhb>
generations, forgot that the gc did not do that
<makefu>
eyJhb: you might have a chance to find a dangling result/ root somewhere :)
<makefu>
rebooting after switching to a new generation and removing old generations may also help
<eyJhb>
It was just 42 generation is /nix/store, where some of them where docker, opencv, etc. and I only use that host for my ZNC + Bitlbee, so I have 6GB free now!

No clue which other channels I was in

But yes! makefu :H
<eyJhb>
My whole setup is fucked now :(((
<sphalerite>
huh? How did that happen?
<eyJhb>
It is more like, the settings in my Bitlbee setup have somewhat reset
<eyJhb>
And I cannot remember the commands for it
<eyJhb>
We need a Bitlbee module
<eyJhb>
nvm, we have that
<sphalerite>
ooh I thought you meant nix channels. Ha.
<eyJhb>
sphalerite: ahh no, just ZNC stuff :D
<sphalerite>
well, who cares, long as you have #nixos-chat

I have had very good success with Emacs over the last two days.

I've always wanted a way to access and refile knowledge in my knowledge-base.

And I've just got it working how I want.

das_j: I think whatever the pigment of your skin is, it is troublesome. But yeah, some places you should not be, but generally from those who live there, you should not really be out after dark
<eyJhb>
Especially not as a white women. Heard stories about people putting boxes over rocks on the highway etc...
<eyJhb>
I however still want to go! Also, cheap food! And nice people. But I guess it was combined with aiding the non-profit org over there as well. Really awesome people!

adisbladis: sooo... Do we know anyone that might be able to do some chinese to english translation ?
<adisbladis>
eyJhb: What do you need to translate?

Something my GF has that they have had for generations, which should orinate from China (I guess they have ancestors in China) - https://i.imgur.com/fWAEpqt.jpg

adisbladis: Why do people still do the legacy USB A Type? :/
<gchristensen>
I like USB-A :/

it is simple. you never know what you're going to get with USB-C

lol.

i guess, not a super heavy duty processor, but it's not a SoC system kind of thing either.

<eyJhb>
Not even sure what I shared with you guys now! Might be secrets to my computer
<ar>
wait, displaylink works on linux now?
<cole-h>
Anybody here have experience with Linode? Are they good/bad? I know they have NixOS support, but how good is it?
<eyJhb>
ar: yes, and stay away from it if you can
<eyJhb>
:p
<cole-h>
Shopping around for cloud compute -- already tried packet.net, but they don't have any c2.medium.x86's right now (or rather, some of their datacenters are missing from my choices to deploy from).
<cole-h>
(Specifically, cloud compute to use as a NixOS builder :P
<cole-h>
)
<ar>
eyJhb: my work laptop came with a displaylink "dock". iirc lelnovo 40AS
<ar>
but i also can't remove windows from it, so there's that
<eyJhb>
Ohhh, windows is hell to begin with, so that is OK then I guess
<eyJhb>
I just use it to get a third display
parsley936 has joined #nixos-chat
<eyJhb>
Because my two other displays are QHD, it cannot drive the third one as well
<ar>
that 40as dock can drive 2 4k displays at 60Hz over displayport

though it ends up consuming lots of cpu if you even move a large empty notepad window around…
<cole-h>
Alternatively, if anyone has a referral they want me to use for Linode, feel free to send it my way... :P
<eyJhb>
ar I can imagine that. I just have a 1920x1080 monitor I use as a third display
<eyJhb>
However, I have used that mostly for movies/videos most of the time :(

cole-h: i do
<drakonis>
i've been using linode
<cole-h>
drakonis: How do you like them?
<drakonis>
they're pretty decent
<drakonis>
they don't get in your way for NixOS
<drakonis>
the prices are good
<cole-h>
One slight pain-point is how I have to get verified to kick off one of their "Dedicated 64GB" machines (to use as a NixOS builder)...
<cole-h>
If only packet wasn't missing like 4 data centers 👀
<drakonis>
verified?
<drakonis>
oh yeah
<cole-h>
Oh wait
<drakonis>
i went with linode because it has enough low latency data centers
<cole-h>
idk what happened differently, but I could create it now... :P
<drakonis>
bloop i need to give you my code
<cole-h>
F, already did it
<drakonis>
i wanted that 20 buckaroos of credit :(

they also give you 20 bucks of free credit on registration
<drakonis>
