<etu> oh, missed the slash? That's so weird that it makes a difference :D

<etu> ah
<etu> That makes more sense
<LnL> that reminds me, what happened to the .com domain?
<LnL> did it expire or is the website still there

<gchristensen> anyone want to take the irc nickname `the`? I'm going to release it from my account.
<joepie91> that must be the worst nickname to have
<joepie91> haha
<joepie91> highlights everywhere
<gchristensen> worse is the number of times people try to log in as it
<gchristensen> NickServ (NickServ@services.): The!xxx@gateway/web/freenode/ip.x.x.x.x failed to login to gchristensen. There have been 157 failed login attempts since your last successful login.
<joepie91> lol
<joepie91> yesterday's print job on my new 3D printer
<gchristensen> nice!
<joepie91> unfortunately fell over due to poor adherence, because I fucked up bed leveling
<ldlework> cute
<gchristensen> nice detail. my prints always looked like butt..
<joepie91> hence the messed-up top
<joepie91> it's running again now, properly leveled this time
<joepie91> gchristensen: it's a Creality Ender-3
<joepie91> known for making good prints once everything is configured right :D
<gchristensen> nice. mine was the kickstarter printrbot
<ldlework> what do you use printing for
<ldlework> just fun?
<joepie91> mostly been printing mechanical parts for fixing stuff around the house actually, lol
<joepie91> though not on this printer yet
<joepie91> I only got it yesterday
<joepie91> this printer is actually super weird in a way
<joepie91> the manufacturer is doing continuous delivery
<joepie91> it seems that literally every batch is different from the previous
<joepie91> with new patches/upgrades applied
<gchristensen> I made cookie cutters, mostly
<joepie91> so every 2 months you get a different revision or so
<joepie91> the latest revision ships with a magnetic build plate from the factory, and a different bowden tube socket
<joepie91> I still have an older one unfortunately, got stuck in customs for a while
<joepie91> but I bought the magnetic plate separately and I might pester the vendor and ask them to ship me a better socket :P
<joepie91> gchristensen: my main project so far has been new knobs for my water heater / tap in the kitchen
<gchristensen> huh
<joepie91> original ones broke, so I made a near-clone model for them
<joepie91> hold on, grabbing pic
<joepie91> gchristensen: https://i.imgur.com/diHHoZg.jpg
<joepie91> original right, replacement left
<gchristensen> those are very curious knobs
<joepie91> how so? :P
<gchristensen> well they stick out a weird direction. never seen anything ilke. it
<joepie91> continuous heater + tap in one
<joepie91> buttons are angled towards which hand you use to open them
<joepie91> and as you can see from there literally being a button missing on the reference picture of these on wikipedia, the knobs aren't very durable lol
<joepie91> knob missing*
<gchristensen> huh
<joepie91> anyway, these kind of heaters are semi-common in older houses in NL
<joepie91> but it's difficult to find replacement parts
<gchristensen> gotcha
<joepie91> one of my next projects is gonna be dishwasher baskets
<samueldr> I'm sure you thought of it already, but it gets toasty in a dishwasher
<joepie91> aye
<joepie91> been e-mailing back and forth with a filament shop about the ideal material to use for this
<joepie91> PLA and PETG are out
<joepie91> ABS is a possible option, depending on annealing options
<joepie91> Nylon also, though I'm unsure whether that requires a special nozzle
<ldlework> Google's Blaze sounds a lot like Nix
<__monty__> You mean Bazel?
<ldlework> In software development, Bazel is a free software tool that allows for the automation of building and testing of software.[2] The company Google uses the build tool Blaze internally[3] and released and open-sourced part of the Blaze tool as Bazel, named as an anagram of Blaze.
<gchristensen> Bazel is pretty cool
<ldlework> I was reading about the internal practices at Google so it talked about Blaze instead.
<__monty__> Build systems à la carte mentions both bazel and nix, worth a read to understand the fundamental differences. Well, some of them.

<gchristensen> I think Eelco was looking at ways to adopt some of Bazel's techniques

<gchristensen> a project I've been hacking on involves reducing a set of paths a nix expression looks at to a minimum set of mutable paths, and took the set from over 300 paths -- /nix/store paths, channel paths, local nixpkgs paths, project paths ... etc. .. down to {"/nix/var/nix/profiles/per-user/root/channels/nixos", "/home/grahamc/projects/grahamc/FOOBAR"}
<gchristensen> pretty good :D
