<Myrl-saki> Twey: What keyboard do you use for Plover?
<Myrl-saki> Twey: And did you change the keycaps?
<Twey> Myrl-saki: I'm using the Ergodox. I have a red (switches) at work and a blue at home, works best with reds
<Twey> Myrl-saki: If you get the unprinted keycaps they come sculpted and asymmetrical, and you can turn the top row upside-down to minimize the gap between the keys โ€” works pretty well
<Twey> Myrl-saki: I have a Plover layout in the qmk repo :)
<Twey> Myrl-saki: I have a Plover layout in the qmk repo :)
<Twey> Oops
<Myrl-saki> Oh cool. What do you mean by Plover layout?
<Myrl-saki> I have a split keyboard myself, and the SA keycaps don't work well with Plover, IMO.
<Twey> Myrl-saki: Yeah, I have a set of those ones and they're terrible for it
<Myrl-saki> Twey: OTOH, they're amazing for typing.
<Myrl-saki> I have another keyboard dedicated for gaming, so maybe I should attach it every once in a while to refresh myself on Plover. :P
<Myrl-saki> Twey: What's the use of making a dedicated keymap?
<Twey> Myrl-saki: Those keys are not keyboard keys, I emulate a serial console over USB
<Myrl-saki> Ohhh
<Twey> Myrl-saki: And speak TX Bolt to Plover
<Myrl-saki> Holy crap.
<Myrl-saki> Twey: That means you don't have to worry about NKRO fuckery, right?
<Twey> Myrl-saki: To some extent yeah
<Twey> Myrl-saki: It's not really a problem with the Ergodox anyway though
<Myrl-saki> Right.
<Twey> It means that I don't have to worry about switching Plover on and off and making sure it's in sync
<Myrl-saki> Oh.
<Twey> Plover just stays on, but it totally ignores keyboard keys, it only listens to the emulated serial device
<Myrl-saki> So you keep Plover on, but on machine mode, and switch to the layout?
<Twey> Right
<Twey> Used to be I'd accidentally send a Plover command sometimes when Plover wasn't running (usually the toggle), and send some random nonsense command to whatever I was focusing at the time :รพ
<Myrl-saki> Twey: Forgive my messy workplace.
<Twey> Plover also does MIDI, if I did that I could save some USBs I think
<Twey> Ergodox+QMK only supports emulating up to six USB devices and the serial console takes up like three
<Myrl-saki> Twey: If you will look at the spaces, they're actually raised a bit, doubly making Plover had to use. :P
<Twey> Yeah, that looks truly painful
<Myrl-saki> Twey: If I swap it with some DSA keycaps, it should be decent though.
<Twey> Myrl-saki: Mirabai Knight actually sells some steno-shaped keycaps
<Twey> Myrl-saki: If you're going to buy keycaps for steno, maybe get those?
<Twey> http://plover.stenoknight.com/2017/03/stenotoppers-3d-printed-keys-for-your.html โ€” oh, maybe you have to print them yourself
<Myrl-saki> Oh true.
<Myrl-saki> There's also toppers or whatever it's claled.
<Myrl-saki> Twey: I might opt for that instead, since I'd rather change back to keycaps on the fly.
<Myrl-saki> Thanks for reminding me of that. I hope it will work out well, considering that my keyboard is already matrixy from the start. :P
<Myrl-saki> Oh, apparently, toppers are also keycaps.
<Twey> Myrl-saki: Yeah, they're just specially-shaped key caps
<Twey> But I think they cover some keys so probably not suitable for typing
