<aleph-> angerman: Question on the helios64 image. Were you able to transfer it to the internal eMMC?
patagonicus has quit [Ping timeout: 240 seconds]

<aleph-> I assume there's no transfer-to-nand like in the armbian-config util.
<angerman> aleph-: I think so. I believe I just dd’d it onto it.
<aleph-> Got it. Hmm should be fun to try.
<aleph-> angerman: Guess for a quick backup of the internal NAND I could `dd if | ssh "dd of=..."`
<aleph-> angerman: Actually what would the build command for this be? `nix-build -A config.system.build.sdImage --option system aarch64-linux --option sandbox false -I nixpkgs=$HOME/nixpkgs -I helios64-node-config.nix`
<angerman> aleph-: I just used the same image I used for the sd card.
<aleph-> Yeah just trying to figure out how to build it. Never built an image for aarch64 before.
apache8080 has joined #nixos-aarch64
<aleph-> Just getting an error when I attempt to nix-build https://paste.rs/sr1 although I assume I also need to launch quemu as well for the build.

<angerman> aleph-: yea it’s the armbian image.
<aleph-> angerman: Huh what does pkgs.linux_5_9 refer to then? The armbian image?
quinn_ has quit [Quit: ZNC 1.8.1 - https://znc.in]
<angerman> aleph-: sorry I meant armbian kernel (effectively the armbian patches).

<aleph-> Ah got it. Hmm yeah building via `nixos-generate -f sd-aarch64-installer --system aarch64-linux -c nixos-docker-sd-image-builder/helios64-node/sd-image.nix -I nixpkgs=$(pwd)/nixpkgs` fails because it can't find the linux_5_9 pkg
<aleph-> Alright found a 5.10 kernel pkg, that should work.
<aleph-> Hmm and this is failing... grumble.

<aleph-> https://paste.rs/rOM and I can't find that patch to disable, annoying.
<aleph-> Hmm, angerman Do I need all the armbian patches? Or is there a known minimal working subset I can apply?
<angerman> I tried to find a good subset. Never managed to get one that worked. Finally gave up and accepted all.
<aleph-> Hmm yeah I figure this would be easier if I had that 5_9 kernel package. Was able to find 5_10 but figure it's different enough to fail

<angerman> aleph-: wait didn’t I pin nixpkgs? That should always give you a working build? Sorry for being pretty short on time. Weekend is predominantly family time.
<aleph-> Yeah I don't see a nixpkgs in your nixos-docker-sd repo. Nor did I see one in the files in the Helios64 dir tree
<aleph-> And no prob

<angerman> aleph-: the Makefile has a nixpkgs pin
<angerman> aleph-: `make helios64-image` should jsut build it.
<aleph-> Oh wat.
<aleph-> Cool didn't see that

<mindavi> I'm looking at mobile-nixos, but having some issues building anything that requires asciidoc - asciidoc seems to have issues being cross-compiled. There are some paths being substituted using sed, but that uses the cross-compiled tools instead of the native tools. Is there any way to mention to nix that the tools to use should be the 'host' tools when directly substituting in a file?

<samueldr> but this also means, AFAIUI, that they are now totally insecure
<samueldr> (according to their original design)
<aleph-> Interesting
<samueldr> don't go buying a new mediatek device with hope that it'll make them useful!
<samueldr> what it really is interesting here is how it makes it much less likely to actively brick those mediatek devices
