<samueldr> huh
<samueldr> TIL the pixel line of devices can show *either* a black or white boot splash
<samueldr> I mean, from the firmware AFAICT
tilpner_ is now known as tilpner
<samueldr> hmm or maybe it's the latest version that defaults to that?
<aleph-> Yep it can. Mine defaults to black
<samueldr> it changes according to whether your system is in dark mode or light mode
<samueldr> but what I'm unclear about is the _firmware_ boot screen
<samueldr> before android starts drawing
<samueldr> before android Q it was always a white-background image
<samueldr> neat, AFAICT NixOS cross-compiles enough for Mobile NixOS
<samueldr> uh, in armv7l too*

<colemickens> I wonder if there's a problem with flowering's hydra. It seems odd that native would not work when cross would.
<samueldr> they were core dumps
<colemickens> though I guess there's no reason it wouldn't be possible
<samueldr> but yeah, it's plausible AFAICT
<angerman> aleph-: yes this is really annoying. Esp as it requires fiddling with the jumpers if things go bad.

<Ke> anyone know, how can I see, whether freecad/python3.8-pivy-0.6.5 fails to install for others
<Ke> or like, what is the scope of the nixos hydra build
<aleph-> angerman: Bah, annoying. Guess even trying out nixOS is gonna be a treat.
<angerman> I don’t remember the details, but there was a target risk mode where you could write to the internal eMMC via the usbc cable
<aleph-> Bah, there's gotta be a way to boot from microSD again.
<aleph-> Be stupid not to be
<aleph-> Oh wait hmm. Reading this post, it seems that as long as there's a u-boot on the sd card it'll attempt to boot from there first. https://forum.armbian.com/topic/15940-booting-from-usb-stick-possible/?do=findComment&comment=112662
<aleph-> angerman: Does your repo cover installing u-boot or similar there as well?
<angerman> aleph-: the image will install uboot iirc.
<angerman> aleph-: but I think you could also just format the internal eMMC
<angerman> And it will use the as card. However if you jumper disable the internal eMMC. It’s not visible at all anymore.
<angerman> I do remember being rather annoyed at this as well
<aleph-> Ya, trying to leave my eMMC alone for now. That way if nixOS fails to work as I need it I'm not without my NAS for a period.
<aleph-> Hmm jumper is a possibility I guess.

<samueldr> hmmm... cross-compiling armv7 with unstable/master *might* not be working right
<samueldr> went back to a known good revision and my weird issues I was getting just disappeared

<flokli> samueldr: we need to track this better
<samueldr> yes
<samueldr> this was what I was thinking
<flokli> I mean, for me this is an on-off thing
<samueldr> for armv7, same for me
<samueldr> I'm fixing up my side of things, and moving back to aarch64 headaches soon
<flokli> :-)
<samueldr> one thing I wanted to do before, though
<samueldr> is see if a self-contained build of busybox with qemu-user woud show the same issues
apache8080 has quit [Ping timeout: 264 seconds]
<samueldr> because the issue I was having on that one (1) target I tried was busybox `sleep` segfaulting
<samueldr> (among other extremely weird things)
<samueldr> I had no text output to read (turns out it was because of this cursedness), so I was tentatively trying to gauge if things were working or not by the length of time the system stayed alive
