<matthewcroughan> Does anybody know where the armv7l sd card installer images are?
<samueldr> none are being produced
<matthewcroughan> samueldr: I'd love to contribute and produce/host those.
<samueldr> there is no armv7 builders on the hydra
<matthewcroughan> How would I produce them and what are the complications?
<samueldr> you can produce them for your own use
<samueldr> or do as many users do and produce user-produced artifacts
<matthewcroughan> yeah I can do that, but my question is can I produce 20.09 armv7?
<matthewcroughan> If not, why not?
<samueldr> it's made the same way aarch64 generic images are made, but using the armv7 files
<samueldr> you can, if you have ways to do an armv7 native build, or cross-compiling works enough to get a full armv7 system
<matthewcroughan> how would you cross compile, given that example in the release I linked?
<samueldr> if not, well, I don't know why you don't have armv7 native build capabilities... or I don't know why cross-compilation is broken :)
<matthewcroughan> how would pkgsCross work with that example, I mean?
<samueldr> I don't know
<matthewcroughan> like how would you apply pkgsCross to config.system.build.sdImage?
<samueldr> but I did it that way in the past https://github.com/samueldr/cross-system
<matthewcroughan> sweet
<samueldr> it's unlikely to work with the tip of unstable right now
<samueldr> might work with 20.09 though
<matthewcroughan> Yeah I'm testing support for another board (orange pi zero)
<matthewcroughan> I just have some of these boards hanging around, and nixos breathes new life into them.
<matthewcroughan> teaches me a lot about arm, u-boot, etc.
<samueldr> armv7 right now is extremely YMMV and unsupported
<matthewcroughan> samueldr: well, I figure a remote builder on the LAN should make it pretty good.
<samueldr> (due mainly to the lack of native builds on hydra)
<matthewcroughan> samueldr: did you know about pkgsStatic btw?
<samueldr> yes
<matthewcroughan> Nix is just unbelievable. The audacity ;D
<matthewcroughan> So cool.
<samueldr> that's Nixpkgs
<samueldr> Nix has no knowledge about the cross-compilation shenanigans Nixpkgs does :)
<matthewcroughan> Yeah, I guess. But nix itself should be worshipped for allowing that abstraction to come into being.

<betaboon> anyone knows how to use dtparams on a pi4 ?
monk has joined #nixos-aarch64
<samueldr> betaboon: I guess the most important thing to know is: is it using u-boot or not?
<samueldr> if it's using u-boot, it will undo anything the firmware does (configured through config.txt)
<betaboon> samueldr: no uboot
<samueldr> otherwise, just like normal
<samueldr> I guess
<samueldr> (unless there are things in the nixos modules for it specifically)
<betaboon> hm then the problem must ly elsewhere

<samueldr> you could use `dtc /proc/device-tree` and read the .dts dump (grep) for the nodes it should change or add
<betaboon> what package is dtc part of ?
<samueldr> ,locate bin dtc
<{^_^}> Found in packages: dtc, python27Packages.libfdt, python37Packages.libfdt, python38Packages.libfdt
<samueldr> dtc
<samueldr> I wasn't sure if it was libfdt or dtc lol, since dtc is part of libfdt (not to be confused with the python libfdt)

<luxemboye> What's the best way to rollback on a aarch64 with uboot + extlinux? Just modifying the extlinux.conf and then rolling back i suppose?
<samueldr> assuming you don't have serial or a keyboard/display to select from, yeah
<samueldr> there's even a helpful hint at the top of the file
<luxemboye> because on grub you can just choose the generation at boot, which at least I can't do on my odroid c2 with uboot/extlinux
<luxemboye> I do have a keyboard/display and even a serial adapter, but I never really got the serial adapter thing to work
<luxemboye> I had to use uboot 2020.04 for stuff to work properly (^_^;)
<samueldr> u-boot can provide a selection with keyboard/display, but sometimes boards aren't configured or supported for it
<samueldr> otherwise, the same is shown also on serial
<samueldr> but yeah, it _is_ a supported way to edit DEFAULT there
<samueldr> it will be replaced anyway at the next rebuild
<luxemboye> okay thanks, just wanted to know if there was a better way
<samueldr> I think those are the better ways, in order :)
<luxemboye> I suppose for my issue of booting only with serial adapter connected while outputting only to HDMI, and ethernet not working in recent uboot versions, I should probably go upstream?
<luxemboye> (opening an issue or ML)
<samueldr> we're building u-boot as-stock-as-possibl, so yeah
<luxemboye> Okay, thanks :)
<samueldr> I believe that, lately, all patches we added were all trivial things to support bigger kernels, and always have been pushed to upstream
Acou_Bass has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer]

<luxemboye> The one thing i figured out was that using the 2020.04 version made my board work, while the newer one needs a serial adapter connected for no reason and ethernet is broken.
<luxemboye> I don't know where the issue or how I could do anything about it, so the least I could do is at least notify and try to help.
