<gchristensen> may we never have such an error message https://twitter.com/Kuwaddo/status/1037018709251055621
<joepie91> brief rant time: why the *fuck* are there giant advertising banners appearing in public parks in NL
<joepie91> why does everything need to be infested with $#@%@#$ advertising
<etu> gchristensen: hah, and that reminds me of my only arch-system that I don't want :(
<gchristensen> we _did_ have an error message which was just as rude and useless but it was deleted
<etu> I should start building a nixos-config to match the things I have running on my arch-box
<etu> So I don't have as much downtime whenever I reinstall it.
<__monty__> etu: That takes so much will power to do though. I've had two scary kernel mishaps with arch now and I still don't have a backup plan : /
<etu> __monty__: I think my backup plan is to start building a configuration in a VM to match the same software running, at least most of it not all parts like TLS certificates etc. Any weekend now, any weekend.
<etu> __monty__: But kernel issues is common with arch compared to any other distro :(
<__monty__> Yes, that's what you get when you roll out broken kernels : )
<__monty__> I know my hardware is old though so maybe I wouldn't have had the issues if I shelled out some $$$.

<gchristensen> hello friends! I just posted about docbook.rocks on Twitter, (https://twitter.com/grhmc/status/1037711795903967232), Lobsters, and Hacker News. if you could be a dear and go retweet, upvote, etc. that would be really wonderful!
<joepie91> gchristensen: careful, HN has a tendency to 'sink' submissions when they find people explicitly asking for upvotes :)
<gchristensen> yeah
<gchristensen> with only 2 "points" there isn't much worry about sinking anyway
<joepie91> (unrelated, strongly recommended watch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3yJqlD9RxD4 )
<joepie91> (super interesting)
<gchristensen> he has a style very much like the engineer guy
<joepie91> gchristensen: the engineer guy?
<gchristensen> ^ also fascinating
<joepie91> gchristensen: oh, I think I have that on my to-watch list

<sphalerite> gchristensen: thunderbird thinks your discourse post about docbook.rocks might be a scam x)
<gchristensen> boo
<maurer> sphalerite: Might be .rocks tld?
<sphalerite> Might also be "a lot of people meet…"
<sphalerite> idk
<gchristensen> "<see> Hot <person> In Your <para>"
<andi-> as long as the website will not be filtered by the google content filter ;)
<andi-> rspamd also thought that those links could be fishy but they weren't fishy enough :D
<gchristensen> hundreds of new TLDS but you can't actually use them for anything. great :)
<joepie91> the new TLDs were always a scam :P
<andi-> It is funny how often I can't use my .email domain because people aren't updating their mail address "validators" :/
<gchristensen> haha
<samueldr> .scam isn't one, so gtld.scam can't be a domain :(
<LnL> yeah, I can't visit https://nix.ci at work :/
<samueldr> those are not GTLDs though :/
<gchristensen> obnoxious because that isn't ...^
<andi-> every proper website is on .com!
<gchristensen> "home star runner dot net, its dot com"
<simpson> gchristensen: I wasn't able to register on a .gov website earlier this year because my .cloud domain didn't fit their form validation.
<andi-> I would go insane if people started censoring my internet at work..
<andi-> I started to measure companies by a) if they accept my .space or .email or $gtld domain and b) if they run on IPv6 (on the website at least)
<LnL> andi-: ping6 wdc.com :p
<andi-> it's three letters on a .com.
<andi-> not even trying.
<infinisil> I switched from .io to .com because the probability that there's gonna be a problem on .io is far higher than with .com
<infinisil> There's a couple disaster stories online regarding this
<__monty__> Problems like?
<gchristensen> nic.io deregistering your domain just because
<andi-> or technical issues because your registry is actually a drowning island

<infinisil> Yeah, all these potential problems aren't worth it imo just for having a hip tld
<samueldr> there's .hiphop, but no .hip
<andi-> is there .hype?
