<clever> samueldr: rpi firmware has a new reboot flag, in the special "tryboot" mode, it will respect tryboot.txt, instead of config.txt, but only once
<samueldr> ain't got no helios64 here yet :(
<samueldr> still processing
<samueldr> clever: reboot flag as in `sudo reboot tryboot`?
<clever> yeah, something like that
<clever> it requires 3 seperate updates, the linux kernel, the eeprom firmware, and also the start4.elf i believe
<angerman> samueldr: I wonder if I should just try my rockpi4 images :D
<samueldr> angerman: you're likely to get far by doing something similar with the fork of u-boot and the kernel they have
<samueldr> it's closer to mainline though, not rockchip bsp

<patagonicus> Interesting. I'm rebuilding my system at newer nixpkgs version and it's building two different versions of Go. I wonder if that's easily fixable or if something is stuck on an older version.

<magnetophon> I've been folowing this project for a while now, but nowhere on the site nor the github can I find the answer to the most obvious question: Is it ready to be used as a daily driver? Can I call, sms, browse and navigate?
<magnetophon> erm, sorry that was not clear: I'm talking about mobile-nixos...
<samueldr> not ready yet
<magnetophon> ok, thanks
<samueldr> definitely not for non-pinephone, pinephone could be in the upcoming months depending on misc work around
<samueldr> especially with regards to sms and comms.
<magnetophon> that is also good info. I'm looking for a new phone and already had my eye on the pinephone, but this kinda tips the balance
<magnetophon> thank you!
monk has left #nixos-aarch64 ["Error from remote client"]
<samueldr> note that I can't _promise_ it'll be useful, but I intend to make it useful enough for me within a year

<magnetophon> of course you can't promise anything. but just the fact that that phone stands the best chance of usefully running nixos in the future is valuable info.

* colemickens wants a twilio<->matrix bridge so that I don't need sms/mms other than a data connection
<gchristensen> you want to talk to samueldr
<samueldr> hm?
<gchristensen> aren't you able to sms?
<gchristensen> no, you voip
<samueldr> I didn't do any kind of optimization other than use whatever the voip provide does
<gchristensen> anyway colemickens samueldr has nothing but a data connection
<samueldr> though my voip provider does support SMS
<samueldr> in case anyone is interested, it's https://voip.ms/en/invite/MTc5NTc1 and that code gives both the referer and the referee
<samueldr> I can't say for sure whether the service is the best, but it sure works for me
<samueldr> though the SMS bit is bad... but that's because SMS are bad
<samueldr> oh, and it's a business from Québec, which wasn't even something I was looking for at the time I found it
<colemickens> samueldr: what's your UX though? Do they provide a Google Voice style app then?
<colemickens> or do you use this for some sort of project/service rather than personal comms?
<samueldr> it's SIP
<samueldr> you do what you want with it
<samueldr> including, if you so desire, connect an Asterisk server
<samueldr> though I just use it with SIP apps
<samueldr> ah, but SMS is separate, I don't know if they added anything else, but they have a bespoke web interface and API
<samueldr> in addition to forwarding them to e-mail
<samueldr> so I just look at my e-mail
<samueldr> also, voicemails to e-mail
