Did google really remove adb backup from android? So you can no longer backup to a local machine?

<ryantrinkle>
__red__: yep; i did a bunch of research into this recently, and was not able to discover a good way to back up my phone
<ryantrinkle>
even adb backup was not very good
<ryantrinkle>
apps can opt out, for instance
<samueldr>
the only good way I know of, and even then there are limitations, is through rooted apps like titanium backup
<samueldr>
but I haven't tested seedvault
<samueldr>
though I believe it has a similar caveat, where it needs to be a privileged app
<__red__>
ughh
<__red__>
so - custom android it is then
<__red__>
time to move my wife to a rooted phone
<danielrf[m]>
`apps.seedvault.enable = true;` in robotnix :)
<ryantrinkle>
what i would really like is to just use zfs and zfs snapshots for the whole thing; but i'm afraid i'm not gonna be getting that until i switch to nixos-mobile :P
<LinuxHackerman>
danielrf: it's great, except I haven't got a nextcloud set up yet and the local backup doesn't seem to work xd
<danielrf[m]>
Does backup to a USB drive not work for you?
<danielrf[m]>
My backups are set up using nextcloud currently. Luckily I haven't had to use them yet for my main device
<ryantrinkle>
danielrf[m]: i'll have to read up on seedvault
