<asymmetric>
and add some info on how channels are released wrt to hydra builds
<samueldr>
IIRC, previous discussions that were about splitting parts of important "entry" articles like that one the concensus was that a good enough description should always stay on the main page
<samueldr>
in this case, possibly most of that text
<samueldr>
and then link to a more in-depth articles (in the text) for deeper knowledge
<asymmetric>
ok.. i'm not sure if then i should create a "channels" page or a "channels release process"
<samueldr>
it seems there's already a "Nix Channels" page, maybe your contributions can fit nicely in there? → https://nixos.wiki/wiki/Nix_Channels
<asymmetric>
as the release process s what i would like to write about
<asymmetric>
ah, hadn't seen it!
<samueldr>
it would definitely fit nicely as right now there's "The official channels" bit
<samueldr>
:)
<asymmetric>
i guess it should be linked from the nixpkgs page for discoverability
<samueldr>
it is, in the last sentence of the channels section
<samueldr>
→ For more information on channels and how to select the appropriate channel for your purposes, see the Nix Channels article.
<samueldr>
so yes, you're right
<asymmetric>
ah, good point
<asymmetric>
i think the way wikipedia does it is clearer
<asymmetric>
with a subheading with the link to the specific article
<asymmetric>
rather than having it as just another link
<samueldr>
(can you link to an example on wikipedia?)
<samueldr>
I personally am quite fond of links in the flow of the text, BUT in that case the link isn't in the flow, it's a tacked-on paragraph with a link
<samueldr>
(though, I'd prefer even having both, when possible)
<asymmetric>
yeah, i have to say that i skipped over that last line
<asymmetric>
and AFAIU, you'd leave the last line as well?
<samueldr>
in that specific case, I'm only leaving it because it's already there (the line doesn't add value), but if I had to link to another article about the full subject, I'd try to integrate in the normal flow of the text
<samueldr>
barring that, then the {{main}} link is enough
<samueldr>
I don't know either what in hydra makes the difference between the nixpkgs-unstable and nixos-unstable, both channels can advance separately
