<Profpatsch>
I agree that org mode is not a good solution, because it’s an organically grown elisp format with no mind to simplicity of parsing or interaction between syntax (also no grammar and barely any good implementations outside of emacs)
<Profpatsch>
It’s, in its essence, the antithesis of docbook
<mkaito>
I use org mode for most of my stuff, but I wouldn't ever suggest it here :P
<Profpatsch>
mkaito: yeah, same
<Profpatsch>
it replaced .txt for me, but that’s it
<mkaito>
I did that mistake once, and Serokell was stuck for years using mandatory org-mode for work clocks. regrets were had.
<Profpatsch>
frick, I’m discussing docformats again
<mkaito>
now I preface everything I say with "this works for me, and it's fine if you don't like it" :P
<Profpatsch>
“I’s easy, just emacs --eval "(docbook-to-html \"nix-manual.org\")" in the manual drv”
<__monty__>
I'm sure there's a quote along the lines of "The easiest topic to nerdsnipe people with is syntax." : )
<Profpatsch>
^ that would indeed my recommendation to generate formats if we were to use .org
<mkaito>
well yeah, org-mode exports to nearly anything :P
<Profpatsch>
__monty__: It’s like religion, everybody is bound to have an opinion :)
<__monty__>
And much like with religion most people are wrong. : >
<mkaito>
nah, most people are right... for themselves. the problem is with people who can't tell fact from opinion.
<__monty__>
(That was a joke about people who prefer C-style syntax.)

jtojnar: the current assertions were never intended to be merged to master, they are just to make the builds fail more explicitly until they are fixed
<globin>
I'm not sure if we should introduce the env attrs already, maybe the whole structured attrs change should go through an RFC

globin it would be nice if there was some error, rather than builds silently broken
<jtojnar>
But it seems you cannot really assert without forcing the dependencies
<jtojnar>
I was even thinking of having the bash scripts declare used variables/functions for some extra checks (e.g. using cmakeFlags without cmake setup hook would error)
