<samueldr>
-L and -I are added since, at least for python3Packages.evdev the native python would be used to (try to) link to
<lovesegfault>
Is there anything I can do to help merge staging?
<samueldr>
now, python people: what's wrong with that and how to fix it right?
<samueldr>
-I and -L aren't seemingly required for the previously mentioned pycryptodome

Hi all, I am currently using nix on darwin. I was wondering if someone could help me understand what the `buildFHSUser` does - to my understanding, it just creates a new permissioned user. I know this is restricted to Linux, but is there any way to be able to port this to macOS?
<anirrudh>
not port - but replicate its behavior? I am trying to install miniconda under nix

I tell you what, these every-6-mo releases really seem to accelerate time
<samueldr>
and 🎉
<globin>
worldofpeace: structuredAttrs will not be ready in time, also I'm offline from the middle of february to ~10th april so I won't be able to fix up anything related that people have cherry-picked then, so if something comes up please ping me early :)
<gchristensen>
that is okay, plenty of time tobake and get stable ofor 20.09 :)
<adisbladis>
Whoa. didn't we just release 19.09 ?!
<samueldr>
shy of 5 months ago I think
<worldofpeace>
globin: yeah I think that might have to be a thing to get in shape for 20.09
<adisbladis>
samueldr: Yeah :) Just feels like it was basically yesterday :)
<worldofpeace>
samueldr: I actually thought we were a bit late in announcing the freeze, if there's any real bit pushback we can adjust the date. It's just what disasm and I agreed on
<gchristensen>
I like our pace. it feels hard sometimes, and feels fast sometimes, but like the saying goes if something hurts do it more
<globin>
worldofpeace: needs changes in nix so it will take time
<worldofpeace>
globin: I dropped the mention from the announcement
<samueldr>
no worries then, worldofpeace, was more curious about it than anything else
<gchristensen>
it would be good to put all the big "todo" items for the release process in to general day-to-day per-PR process, so master is "always ready" essentially
<worldofpeace>
gchristensen: yeah, that sounds tranquil. but when it comes to the python testing port master won't be ready until that's complele
<gchristensen>
yeah
<gchristensen>
separate from goals, I mean, though
<gchristensen>
like collecting release notes or breaking changes etc.
<gchristensen>
"major upgrades"
<worldofpeace>
samueldr: re your cross-compiling mention, could you share some links with me? I've seen it discussed in this channel a few times but I'm not informed
<samueldr>
oh, it's rather "trivial", glibc cross-compiling is broken on unstable, already fixed in staging, now it "simply" needs to graduate to being in master :)
<samueldr>
the non-trivial bit is making staging graduate before the release
<disasm>
samueldr: I would have preferred the 3rd, but figured a 2 week notice was in order :)
<disasm>
and yeah, true to form, we're behind schedule of announcing things :)
<gchristensen>
if anybody complains, send them an invoice :P
<worldofpeace>
exactly, it took us a bit to get to things IMHO
<worldofpeace>
gchristensen: 🤣
<adisbladis>
disasm: As is tradition :)
<gchristensen>
it is important to try to be timely, and important to be on top of it and get it done within a reasonable amount of time (or delegate to let somebody else do so) but +/- some time.... sorry, volunteer work
<aminechikhaoui>
niksnut disasm I see a 20.3 feature freeze email already, can we get https://github.com/NixOS/nixpkgs/pull/72266 in ? Just to get the basic building blocks of the plugin structure working in nixpkgs
<aminechikhaoui>
I think currently it's used in a weird way and would be nice to have some helpers provided
<worldofpeace>
samueldr: when it comes to graduating staging, I always become worrysome when it's a bit of an internal process, and if FRidh could become unavailable round release...
<gchristensen>
aminechikhaoui: yes please
<samueldr>
I think vcunat also works on graduating staging
<gchristensen>
aminechikhaoui: replying with feedback...
<aminechikhaoui>
gchristensen thanks
<gchristensen>
aminechikhaoui: thank you =)
