<clever> elvishjerricco: oh, can you pastebin me your `vcgencmd otp_dump` from the CM4?
<elvishjerricco> clever: Not at the moment. Remind me tomorrow?
<elvishjerricco> What for?
<clever> one of the lines in there, says if recovery.bin is enabled or not
<clever> and i suspect the emmc version has that disabled
<elvishjerricco> what's recovery.bin?
<elvishjerricco> I don't have an emmc model; both of the CM4's I have are lite models
<clever> recovery.bin is a file on the uSD card, used to recover/reflash the SPI flash on the CM4 itself
<clever> the emmc version needs that disabled, because you have no way to pop the card out
<clever> having that file present would effectively brick the cm4
<elvishjerricco> Oh. The CM4 has a jumper that you can close to put it in a mode where you can flash the firmware. Is that similar?
<clever> that jumper causes the SPI flash to fail a read
<clever> but recovery.bin has a higher priority
<elvishjerricco> oh interesting
<clever> basically, the boot order in the ROM is hard-coded to only boot from 3 things: recovery.bin, the SPI flash, usb device mode
<clever> OTP is used to enable each of those
<clever> recovery.bin is #1, so it can un-brick an rpi4
<clever> but on a CM4 with emmc, you have no way to delete the file if it gets there
<clever> so its instead disabled
<clever> a jumper on the CM4 will make the SPI flash temporarily fail, so you can feed it code over usb
<clever> you can even recover an rpi4 that way, by shorting the right pins out
<elvishjerricco> clever: Are you still interested in the output of `vcgencmd otp_dump` if I don't have an emmc version?
<clever> that can still be interesting
<clever> just to confirm that it matches an rpi4
<elvishjerricco> Alright, I'll do that tomorrow
<clever> the official docs
<clever> and the stuff they "forgot" to document

<juhe> Hi! I've built an image for RPi4 from master branch, all but HDMI sound (and maybe 3D acceleration - that's something I don't need now) seems working. The snd_bcm2835 module is not loaded automatically and even if I load it, no sound HW is detected. Is there a known way to get HDMI sound working on RPi4?
<ryantrinkle> if you were gonna get an aarch64 build machine for <$2000, what would it be?
<ryantrinkle> (you=anyone)
<ryantrinkle> (or could be a cluster of machines)
<gh0st[m]> Sopine looked interesting, but the modules are out of stock iirc. The RK3588 when it comes out should be good too, but not sure
<ryantrinkle> gh0st[m]: ah yeah, that looks pretty solid
<ar> ryantrinkle: for now, something based on lx2k, or a bunch of rpi4 8GB. soonish, maybe the m1 mini, depending on how porting linux to it goes
<ar> ryantrinkle: incidentally, the first two options are what I use
<ryantrinkle> ar: ok yeah, that makes sense :)
<ryantrinkle> it's sad that there's such a huge gulf between that kind of stuff and the ampere mt snow / mt jade, etc.
<ryantrinkle> it's like <$1000 and then the next thing is >$7000
<ryantrinkle> ar: does nixos work well on the lx2k?
<ryantrinkle> i'm mostly interested in having a reasonable way of rebuilding pinephone nixos images
<ar> ryantrinkle: depends on whether you expect >=10GB nics to work on mainline kernel
<ar> ryantrinkle: because that's the only issue I've noticed with it so far
<ryantrinkle> ahh no i don't really care about that
<ar> there's someone else here who has an lx2k-based sbc

<superherointj> Ke that seems pretty cool.
<Ke> single thread perf is still not great
<Ke> some applications are insanely slow
<Ke> like claws-mail
<Ke> linux kernel compilation speed is acceptable
<Ke> may be claws mail is running slow interpreted javascript or something

<clever> elvishjerricco: according to the bcm2711B0T rom, bit 14 doesnt do anything, but the CM4 is using a bcm2711C0T
