<LnL> hey
<LnL> welcome :)
<qbit> ty :D - i am pretty new to nix
<qbit> nix-darwin basically extends nix's abilities to configure / manage various things?
<qbit> like launchd
<LnL> yeah
<qbit> sweet :D
<LnL> so nix (the package manager) is the core building block
<LnL> nixos is a linux distribution built around that, pushing as much configuration as possible to the package manager
<LnL> leaving just a very limited set of imperative steps, which are mostly atomic, to configure or "activate" it
<qbit> beauty
<qbit> i have a long term goal of making something similar for OpenBSD
<qbit> which nix was recently ported to (build wise - long way to go before it's functional)
<LnL> now nix-darwin implements the steps for more general unixy things that don't conflict with the macOS system and only runs those
<qbit> oh cool
<LnL> I think there where some bsd people active with nix at some point but that has mostly died out
<LnL> until recently it seems
<LnL> https://search.nix.gsc.io/?q=is(Free%7COpen)BSD&i=nope&files=&repos=
<qbit> nice!
