<globin> zimbatm, Mic92, gchristensen: I'm apparently not allowed to post links to github on discourse, any idea or possibility to fix that?
<globin> "Sorry you cannot post a link to that host."
<zimbatm> weird
<zimbatm> let me bump your score a bit :)
<globin> zimbatm: thanks, could post now!
<zimbatm> globin: try again?
<zimbatm> ok
<zimbatm> still, I wonder how many people were prevented from doing that
<globin> can we whitelist github maybe?
<Mic92> globin: it might be the case that I hit the wrong button once, while doing moderation.
<Mic92> I also increased your trust level
<zimbatm> Mic92: would that block globin specifically or all users?
<infinisil> There's scores and trust levels in discourse? :/ that makes is sound like a game
<Mic92> zimbatm: there was a post for moderation from globin. I thought I released it, but I am not sure, because it was not shown afterwards I think
<Mic92> infinisil: it's from the stackoverflow guys, so no surprise
<zimbatm> added github.com to the "whitelisted link domains" list
<zimbatm> and gitlab
<globin> thanks!
<zimbatm> infinisil: we haven't been affected too much luckily but this is because it helps combat spam
<zimbatm> plus their theory on nudging right behaviour I guess
<zimbatm> globin: assuming I don't know anything of the RFC process, pointing to the whole README is a bit too much to read
<zimbatm> it would be nice to post a reminder, or at least link to a specific section
<zimbatm> globin: I created this new group ^ and changed the settings of https://discourse.nixos.org/c/announcements/rfc-announcements to only allow posts coming from that group
<zimbatm> that way it's guaranteed that the discussion will happen on github

<gchristensen> globin: https://discourse.nixos.org/t/new-rfc-39-open-for-shepherd-nominations-unprivileged-maintainer-team/1933 can't be viewed unless I log in -- is that on purpose
<zimbatm> it's probably my changes that did that
<zimbatm> fixed!
<gchristensen> zimbatm: can people self-nominate?
<zimbatm> to enter the RFC steering committee group?
<zimbatm> all the current members are owners of the group and can invite new people
<zimbatm> the feature to request entering the group is currently disabled
<gchristensen> no, to shepherd a PR
<gchristensen> RFC*
<globin> gchristensen: self-nominations are fine
<MichaelRaskin> I think it is explicitly written in RFC36 that self-nominations are fine
<globin> yep
<samueldr> one (tenuous) reason I'm not keen on squash-and-merge in one-commit PRs is how it changes the hashes, thus the commit presented in the PR is not the one applied to the tree. This makes operations on that commit just a bit more involved

<samueldr> srhb: (about the tests) I just merged disabling the "serial backdoor" to see if it helps with those tests connection timeouts; we'll know next eval
<srhb> samueldr: Oh, ok!
<srhb> I doubt it'll help, but I'm _pretty_ sure that my hypothesis that increasing the timeout had no effect was false in most cases. :)
<samueldr> in some way, let's hope this fixes *that* issue
<srhb> Sure, it's interesting!
<srhb> I wanted to do it but felt like I was seeing ghosts at the time.
<samueldr> increasing the timeout didn't help at all, most connections were under 200s, timeout was 300s
<srhb> The numbers are lies though.
<samueldr> uh?
<srhb> There's like two different timers going on iirc.. I forget the details.
<samueldr> I'm relying on a new thing
<srhb> Oh!
<srhb> Sorry, didn't realize.
<samueldr> no worries
<samueldr> every nest in the tests are now timed
<srhb> awesome!
<samueldr> and there's a special timer for the connection timeout
<samueldr> those are times as seen by the perl harness, so I'm pretty sure they can't like; while I agree that VM times in dmesg cannot be relied upon
<clever> one odd thing ive noticed with the nixos test system, it has 2 sleeps, one will sleep on the host, the other will sleep on the guest (after it boots and connects)
<samueldr> the new nest times will help figuring out where the increase in time are though
<srhb> samueldr: Very good :)

<samueldr> hmm, I see `pname` isn't documented in the nixpkgs manual
<samueldr> (as working globally)
<worldofpeace> Yeah we need that one very bad. That complexity is confusing when I explain it to people all the time.
<samueldr> and to be clear, I know the website doc is release-18.09, I'm saying that unstable doesn't have it either :/
