i like the timeout idea, just start pinging one maintainer after another until some comment or review appeared by a nixpkgs maintainer. The hackerspace in amsterdam implemented this for getting the trash taken out. a bot pinged members which were nearest and asked for taking out the trash. if the member said no then the bot will ask the next member

FRidh: since naming easily leads to confusion when it comes to cross-compiling, how do you think about using pythonForBuild instead of pythonCross?

For pythonCross it is not clear to me if it refers to the cross-compiled python or the python used at build time.
