<red[evilred]> So apparently I was just told that AWS is adding OS X instances. I wonder if that will include aarch64 OS X instances too? I would expect that to have more demand after all from developers given the potential lack of development hardware.
<colemickens> tilpner: that worked, by the way. I just threw a unset LD_PRELOAD, since I was already writing out a shell script anyway. I have other bugs now, but I'm excited to have this one out of the way. Thanks!

<patagonicus> Well, at least leaving it on over night showed that it doesn't hang completely: [ 2.350729] vdd_1.8v_ldo: Bringing 1850000uV into 1500000-1500000uV [17090.391249] random: crng init done
<patagonicus> That's almost 5h for the crng init. :D
<angerman> so it's properly seeded by cosmic noise now?
<patagonicus> Probably. Don't think there's any way for me to access it, though, which makes it kinda pointless.
<patagonicus> Ok, I think I'm going to blame dirty microSD card reader contacts, because that's the only thing that makes sense (and even that makes a lot of sense).
<gchristensen> reboot? ok

<angerman> ok. Something with the helios64 image is not right yet. It won't get the driver for the sata controller up. Ther eis a patch in armbian, however if I apply that, nixos won't start as it fails with `Timed out waiting for device /dev/disk/by-label/NIXOS_SD, trying to mount anyway.`.

<sphalerite> angerman: is that maybe just a question of the driver missing from the initramfs?
<angerman> it's some intitialisation issue, there is a patch for it, but if you build the kernel against he patch, I can't find the sd card's partions anymore.
<sphalerite> oh ok
<sphalerite> huh.
<angerman> great, now even my old image doesn't boot anymore. w.t.f.? I guess I need to grab myself one of those armbian images.
<angerman> sphalerite: there is https://github.com/systemd/systemd/issues/13775... I wish it was sporadic though.
<{^_^}> systemd/systemd#13775 (by Hi-Angel, 1 year ago, open): Sporadic `Timed out waiting for device` on boot

<sphalerite> angerman: oooh this reminds me of my chromebook
<angerman> sphalerite: ?
<sphalerite> the eMMC is extremely unreliable at coming up, but if you just keep removing the driver and trying again, it works eventually x)
<sphalerite> on mainline*
<sphalerite> The chromeos kernel obviously doens't have this issue
<angerman> I want to die
<sphalerite> is my hacak that bad? :p

<samueldr> it might not be specific to the chromebooks, but something with their setup exacerbates the issue
<samueldr> I still need to take time and try re-creating the conditions under which I've seen the same issue on another hardware combination

<sphalerite> samueldr: yeah I think it happens on dumo and bob, but not kevin for example
<samueldr> the other time I saw that issue, it was on the pinebook A64 (not pro)
<samueldr> where only one of the eMMC module exhibited the issue
<samueldr> my gut feeling is that it's *also* specific to which eMMC module is installed
<samueldr> following that, my gut feeling is that something exhibits marginal properties
<samueldr> either the kernel driver, the hardware setup and/or the eMMC chip
<samueldr> (likely to be a combination of the three)
zupo has quit [Quit: My MacBook has gone to sleep. ZZZzzz…]
<samueldr> so you might even try on two bobs and not see that!
