samueldr: Operation seemed to succeed, but now it just kernel panics again
<
balsoft>
I think what I need to do is to build a custom sunxi kernel
<
balsoft>
But this seems strange, as Ubuntu seems to use mainline kernel
<
samueldr>
balsoft: where did you download that ubuntu image?
<
samueldr>
and how do you verify it's mainline or not?
<
balsoft>
Well, I downloaded it from official orangepi website
<
balsoft>
And I
_think_ it's mainline cause it comes with dtb
<
balsoft>
And sunxi kernels don't need dtb's for their devices (I
_think_ so)
<
samueldr>
anything aarch64 AFAIK will come with *.dtb
<
samueldr>
though I think you're right for older allwinner devices
<
samueldr>
balsoft: ubuntu desktop from their site?
<
balsoft>
samueldr: Ubuntu server from official website
<
samueldr>
Ubuntu_Server_Xenial_PC2_V0_9_0.img[.xz] I gather
<
samueldr>
I'll peek in the image see if it's mainline, but I'm betting it isn't since it comes from orangepi

<

Oh, thanks
<
balsoft>
Is this even remotely possible to build on Nixos?
<
samueldr>
a history-less kernel, based on an older release (3.10.65) so almost 100% certain to be based off of downstream allwinner's own fork
<
samueldr>
it is, though not obvious necessarily, and I don't have a clean demo :/
<
samueldr>
I'm not sure what I'm doing for recent forks will work for 3.10
<
samueldr>
you can try it using an overlay like that one
<
samueldr>
but as I said, maybe it will, maybe it won't work with 3.10
<
balsoft>
Thanks a lot, gonna try it
<
samueldr>
looks like the board can handle 30GiB of ram
