<samueldr> timokau[m]: I didn't
<samueldr> if you're talking about #52721
<{^_^}> https://github.com/NixOS/nixpkgs/pull/52721 (by samueldr, 1 day ago, merged): Fixes eval issues in hydra by setting AArch64 as limited support
<samueldr> Too many heap sections: Increase MAXHINCR or MAX_HEAP_SECTS
<samueldr> it still needs to be done to get proper support, but we're now at least producing the images, which I hope tests a bit of aarch64 support
<samueldr> I still need an adult^W^W someone with better knowledge around nix+boehm to take a peek at whether nix really leaks or not

<samueldr> oh, fun thing
<samueldr> there was *one* eval that somehow got through
<samueldr> with the fully supported aarch64
<samueldr> and within the tests only the pair for predictable interfaces failed
<samueldr> (there were two failures due to dependencies timing out, but those are not worrying me)
<timokau[m]> Oh I thought an eval was required for the image build
<samueldr> not entirely, just enough of it eval'd so it works
<samueldr> though i'd prefer seeing a "supported system" kind of eval

<balsoft> My board booted again, I am trying to lustrate to NixOS as specified in the manual. I will report the results later.

<balsoft> samueldr: Do you think this will work?
<samueldr> with care, sure
<samueldr> never done it
<balsoft> Oh, ok
<balsoft> I thought about it for some time
<samueldr> and you might still need to write a u-boot that works with generic distros, which probably the one from your ubuntu image won't
<balsoft> Ok, I think that U-boot there is pretty generic
<balsoft> I think it's mainline
<balsoft> Not sure though
<balsoft> I wasn't able to find any downstream U-Boot for this board
<samueldr> if it's from orange pi, I don't think it's mainline (I could be wrong)
<samueldr> it needs to have this enabled: https://github.com/u-boot/u-boot/blob/master/doc/README.distro
<samueldr> that's how nixos is configured to work with u-boot
<balsoft> Also can I speed things up with cross-compilation?
<balsoft> I have a pretty powerful PC as I'm back home
<balsoft> It's pretty slow to build what I want on the board itself
<samueldr> you can't really mix with cross-compilation as inputs and output is different
<samueldr> you can build something on your PC with cross, copy it to the board and use it
<samueldr> but can't substitute a thing that's not-cross with a cross-built one
<balsoft> Can I run QEMU on My PC and compile from there?
<samueldr> sure
<samueldr> YMMV as qemu-user might fail to build things, and full-blown qemu for aarch64 might be slow
<samueldr> *migh*
<samueldr> might*
<balsoft> Ok then, I think I'm better off just leaving the build with --keep-going overnight
