withdrew my 5.10 complaint, host machine reset + windows write caching probably did it
<gchristensen>
phew

right

scared me for nothing :|
<samueldr>
every LTS update to date has had some people find out some brokenness they always had on their systems :)
<samueldr>
or some exotic~ish components less well supported by upstream, which is a bummber
<samueldr>
bummer*
<samueldr>
but not something we should hold back upgrading LTS for
<gchristensen>
+1
<samueldr>
luckily, nothing *yet* of significance where upgrading would be a disaster
<sterni>
I found out today that the network initrd didn't break between 20.03 and 20.09 even though it switched from dropbear to openssh (at least if you did the migration as instructed by the eval errors)
<ivan>
yeah I was mad about that too with 20.09 but it worked perfectly
<sterni>
which is amazing because I've done multiple ssh network initrd related upgrades for debian and they manage to break it every single time
<samueldr>
sorry for not conforming to expectations
<gchristensen>
haha
<sterni>
this declarative stuff doesn't seem to bad after all :thonking:
<hexa->
sterni: really depends on your deployment tooling
<hexa->
but that is 20000 issues/prs ago, so who cares!

<gchristensen>
good point
<flokli>
yeah, let's just close stale issues, like k8s. Easiest way to fix all these.
<ajs124>
"fix"
<gchristensen>
good point
<sterni>
hexa-: :|

<abathur>
dunno, moving to a new repo is probably easier than all of that closing :)
cole-h has joined #nixos-dev
<hexa->
there is some yml file you can drop into .github/stale.yml
<hexa->
it doesn't get much easier than that
<sterni>
can it auto close issues?
<samueldr>
it could, should it for us? I don't think so
<sterni>
yeah it was a joke mostly
<samueldr>
that's a touchy subject because some contributors would gladly want to do it, others definitely not, a good chunk probably don't really care much
<abathur>
an inescapable accordion-menu of thoughts
<abathur>
samueldr: but, to the point, it would be nice to be able to "set" the default issue view without people having to bookmark useful searches
<samueldr>
yep
<samueldr>
would be nice if github had project management in mind
<abathur>
which would mean you could (probably with an existing bot?) have a triage label added to all new issues, and have the default view for people who can modify labels be label:triage
<abathur>
but also, to be able to make a project decision about what you value as a top-line metric for issues, and choose to focus on whether it lists untriaged issues, or open security issues, or whether to knock issues labeled stale out of your count
<abathur>
in part because I feel like a feedback-demanded-bot would be better than a stale-bot (but perhaps not a replacement) if it was actually capable of managing whether an issue was in the ~triage queue
<abathur>
then issues that aren't actionable without feedback can move from triage -> feedback needed and stay out of everyone's face until there's a response that may have made them actionable again
<hexa->
wait, AWS had no serial console?
<hexa->
(╯°□°)╯︵┻━┻
<hexa->
probably no high demand amongst cloud engineers
<zhaofeng>
hexa-: Not sure if it's relevant, but you need Xen modules if it's not one of the newer instance types
<hexa->
not relevant to me :)
