niksnut: any plans to reimplement the accessor functionality in `hydra-queue-runner` now that it's removed from Nix (545bb2ed03001cd7a80a90f73eb500f396c043a1)? To me it seems as we'd have to duplicate some of the `libstore` code to restore the functionality in Hydra.

yeah I'll have to think a bit about the best way to handle it

I see, thx :)

arianvp qyliss yeah, it was requested and gchristensen said here last week it was denied (https://logs.nix.samueldr.com/nixos-dev/2020-07-15#3737807). I didn't remember there being a question mark after declined, though, so I'm not 100% sure what that means
<abathur>
I have wondered if there's a lever to pull to get Nix a regular contact with a person, team, or reasonably-convincing Siri integration that does developer advocacy/relations, and if it would result in any improvement over the past ~year

What would that look like do you think?

I guess you have to have the network in place to get in touch with people at apple first
<red[evilred]>
I have a contact in apple
<red[evilred]>
somewhere in systems engineering
<red[evilred]>
not sure it would help tho - but I'm willing to ask
<abathur>
I don't really know; it sounds like we've got at least a few people with contacts there; an advocate in particular would ostensibly care about and be able to represent our viewpoint, if not interests, to/with internal groups that I imagine we'll otherwise have a hard time reaching unless someone happens to know someone

I guess *my* vision of what it would look like is that the community is able to develop a relationship with a semi-stable point of contact we can reliably reach without having to @ people on Twitter or whatever. Ideally this contact comes to understand a little bit about the project/ecosystem and is at least able to get us definitive answers when we have questions even if they aren't in our
<abathur>
favor.
<LnL>
that would be nice, but very much doesn't sound like an apple thing
<abathur>
Even that last part would be a big step up. I think we could have cut a better path through the Catalina transition mess if we hadn't been holding onto hope we could find the right ear to get us a firmlink. A clear "No, we can't give an exemption." would suck, but I think certainty would have helped.
<abathur>
I agree, dispositionally. I know they have some people with the job title, but I won't claim to have any clue what they do, whether they're empowered to make any real difference, etc.
<abathur>
they're obviously willing to annoy developers frequently :]
<LnL>
with the introduction of swift it initially looked like they would open up a bit more but everything since feels like it has moved in the opposite direction
