Am I not supposed to be able to refer to resources.elasticIPs.<NAME>.address in my modules and get the actual provisioned address?

srhb: If that's not working it's probably because of NixOps's two phase stuff. Your config is evaluated (at least) twice; once to figure out what modules to generate to define the physical aspects (nixops show-physical), and again to actually evaluate the systems. So if you're trying to use the address in another physical aspect, it's probably in phase 1 and thus not available yet

I was on #nixos but the majority of it was just automatic messages about git commits. All the notifications got annoying. I suppose this is the appropriate channel for general Nix/NixOS discussion?
<andi->
well it is much less topical as the topic says ;-) Usually NixOS specific things should go into #nixos but there aren't strict rules...
<simpson>
That's an interesting perspective. This is the offtopic channel.

I just learned that SQLAlchemy, Mako & alembic (all popular python libs) are mostly maintained by a single person... I am a bit blown away that he managed to come up with a patch for an issue I reported 21minutes ago.. I just hope he never gets hit by a bus..

equalunique: yeah #nixos is the right place to ask questions, and when you do the human traffic will typically exceed the bot traffic :) you could always ignore the github messages if they bother you

this channel is for discussing non-nix stuff

Thanks everyone for the clarification! Even though it's non-nixos, I suppose the "nixos-" prefix means a lot of topics may eventually come back to nixos. ;)

equalunique: that, and it's populated by a subset of the people in #nixos, so it's where off-topic discussions starting in #nixos go :)

aminechikhaoui: I just got my yubikey today :) I am experimenting with it right now
<aminechikhaoui>
heh perfect timing :D
<ottidmes>
aminechikhaoui: Google uses Yubikeys themselves ;)
<aminechikhaoui>
even after releasing their own product ?
<ottidmes>
aminechikhaoui: I guess they have no reason to do away with their old Yubikeys because they now have similar product of their own, and still, the fact that they have used it with great success, means that Yubikey is at least a solid choice as well
drakonis has joined #nixos-chat
<aminechikhaoui>
yeah right
<ottidmes>
aminechikhaoui: I also see that Titan does not have NFC support, but I have yet to experiment with it, so not sure how much I will be using it
<samueldr>
not available in canada... google as usual :/
<ottidmes>
aminechikhaoui: and I rather trust a fifth gen product over a first gen
<aminechikhaoui>
ottidmes let me know if it works out well on NixOS :)
<aminechikhaoui>
well I think I've seen many people mentioning they're using yubikeys so I guess it should work just fine
<ottidmes>
aminechikhaoui: yep, it was my reason for buying one a few days back ;)
<aminechikhaoui>
which one did you end up getting ? "YubiKey 5 NFC" ?
<ottidmes>
aminechikhaoui: yep, this gen its clearly the most useful

Google’s let’s only do FIDO anyway, right?
<qyliss>

<sphalerite>
I use a yubikey 4 nano for gpg (including for SSH)
<sphalerite>
works nicely
<ottidmes>
qyliss: I believe so, only FIDO (so I am not sure what actual benefit it has over Yubikey 5 NFC?)
<qyliss>
OpenPGP/SSH is the only use I use mine for too
<ottidmes>
qyliss: I plan to use it with my password manager that has a web interface, which is very useful, but dangerous, so I thought I'd better get a very solid 2 factor auth in place
