<samueldr> good news, aarch64 can be built quickly looks like
* samueldr wonders about timeouts
<gchristensen> 11h to build all but 88 of 22,000 packages
<gchristensen> (88 still building and I'm not waiting up)
<gchristensen> timeouts?
<samueldr> (unrelatedish)
<samueldr> llvm often times out on aarch64
<samueldr> oops, restarted it
<samueldr> "often"
<gchristensen> interesting
<samueldr> it doesn't need to be rebuilt that often
<samueldr> not specific to a channel
<samueldr> I think it's just being sent to not the optimal machine?
<gchristensen> big-parallel / core allocation maybe
<gchristensen> yeah
<gchristensen> ok past my bed time.

<lorem_ipsum> hi
<lorem_ipsum> i am currently trying to setup a pi with the aarch64 image, but I am failing to get openssh to start
<lorem_ipsum> first time nixos, so maybe some other faults, but what I did: flash new image, boot, edit /etc/nixos/configuration.nix
<lorem_ipsum> added services.openssh.enabled = true; and ran nixos-rebuild switch
<lorem_ipsum> rebuild runs oom, add swap, run again, finishes, but sshd is not started
<lorem_ipsum> there is also no symlink in /etc/systemd/system/multi-user.target.wants
orivej has joined #nixos-aarch64
<lorem_ipsum> am I doing something wrong, or do you have any suggestions on what to check?

<gchristensen> samueldr: https://turingpi.com/
<gchristensen> bummer. v8
<samueldr> v8?
<gchristensen> compute 3, 3+
<samueldr> still not sure what v8 relates to
<gchristensen> itis armv7
<gchristensen> erm
<gchristensen> armv8
<samueldr> ah, "it's not armv6"
<samueldr> yeah
<samueldr> gchristensen: if you wanted to analyze before I requeue https://hydra.nixos.org/build/95091823
<samueldr> llvm
<samueldr> hmmm, not a time out
* samueldr shared too quickly
<samueldr> maybe there's still a bit of analysis to do: what machine type, is the failure reproducible?
<gchristensen> can look soon
<gchristensen> writing an email to the rpi foundation
<gchristensen> hmm
<gchristensen> recent two are ampere
<gchristensen> oh samueldr maybe this is the firmware bug
<samueldr> it would be prudent to isolate an ampere machine, and build to confirm
<gchristensen> yeah
<gchristensen> want me to give you one?
<samueldr> going to get busy in the day, so don't know if I'll be able to follow through
<gchristensen> sure
<gchristensen> I can add you anyway
<gchristensen> I took it outof hydra and will try building it

<gchristensen> I think it has just been luck for the past $while that it was working
<samueldr> right, aarch64 failures being ignored as it eventually built on non-ampere?

<gchristensen> omg samueldr do you know about gumstix' geppetto?
<samueldr> soon I will
<samueldr> oh, colour me surprised
<samueldr> I thought it was _a_ product
<samueldr> that's an exciting thing
<samueldr> though I'm scared of what pricing will be
<gchristensen> probably not insignificant
<samueldr> it is fun, though
<samueldr> oof, if it wasn't for the setup price, it would be fine
<samueldr> though, looking at my "design", I think there is something I overlooked earlier with the turing pi
<samueldr> it *might* be compatible with the CM1
<samueldr> oof, if only, there are things I see in the builder that would be nice
<gchristensen> oh?
<samueldr> usb pin headers like on a motherboard
<samueldr> routing usb from a board to another
<samueldr> so here *in the board* the cm1 modules are routed to the cm3 module
<gchristensen> hmm
<samueldr> that 1999$ initial cost (plus 3 MoQ) is a killer for something that's for playing around though
<gchristensen> yes definitely
ryantrinkle has quit [Ping timeout: 245 seconds]
<samueldr> (though understandably so!)
<samueldr> ooh, processors too, not only COM modules
<samueldr> though not full blown ones
<gchristensen> dang that is so cool
<samueldr> hmmm, they don't seem to have network switch hw
<gchristensen> I think you have to add bridges
<gchristensen> not sure. it can definitely be done
<samueldr> bridges?
<samueldr> hm
<samueldr> I would have assumed you needed some hardware part for switching
<samueldr> I think the bridge is only for 1:1
<samueldr> well, you could probably 1:1 many times, but that's not ideal either
<gchristensen> ah mininodes' one uses ethernet to usb
<gchristensen> the CM doesn't have ethernet
<samueldr> well, it would have to be rpi->usb->eth->[*]
<samueldr> but still, [*] would be nice if it was an internal switch
<gchristensen> so right
<gchristensen> right
