>> The HDMI from A64 is converted thanks to external chip to USB-C Displayport, so PinePhone will have (almost) full featured USB-C connector (only USB3.0 feature missing)
<samueldr>
(not surprising given the R18 SoC doesn't have usb 3)
<samueldr>
maybe I'm misreading this, but I've seen this posted as "ARM IS DOOMED", but I read "arm needs workstations"
<makefu>
samueldr: that is pretty much what linus says, as long as everybody needs to cross for servers these things will not lift off (his words)
<gchristensen>
he's missing his own point though
<makefu>
also arm cannot really be doomed, *every* smartphone is arm
<samueldr>
arm is doomed I say! (as an armchair internet loudmouth)
<samueldr>
/s btw
<gchristensen>
the reasons he uses to say ARM is doomed is what made x86 successful
<samueldr>
I'm wondering what his further replies are; everyone links to that post, but doesn't summarise the whole discussion :/
<samueldr>
further and prior
<makefu>
tl;dr
<samrose_>
yes, he is saying the success was the "develop at home" issue. I assume ARM is a better deal for data centers, and so making a really nice ARM laptop developer platform might do it
