"progress" for mobile-nixos, I think I'm about where I can start poking at my pine a64 like it is an android device and see how stage-2 will work :)
<samueldr>
the boot.img image I build within the mobile-nixos repo boots via fastboot over u-boot, and figured out booting it when dd'd to a partition directly (like an embedded device would)

samueldr: btw with the ROC-RK3399-PC-overlay repo, does upgrade_tool work for you (probably not). i get "Accessing a corrupted shared library", maybe it has to do with the fact, that it is built for 32 bit only?

haven't tried yet
<samueldr>
I'm not even sure how it's supposed to work with my board, since it doesn't have an eMMC
<samueldr>
(and I also try to shy away from needing to use the proprietary tools)
<samueldr>
it might need an update, but it's part of nixpkgs already

yep i will test it once i am home. nice thing is that downstream u-boot provides the rockusb command which can enable the loader mode directly from uboot so you do not have to shorten two trace points for flashing a new image
<samueldr>
I haven't taken the time yet to read and learn about the two different usb modes
<samueldr>
IIRC rockchip has two
<samueldr>
the maskrom one (shorting pins) and another with a button, at least on my board
<samueldr>
I'd need to dig up a good comparison of what's possible in both modes
<lopsided98>
There is also rkdeveloptool (also in nixpkgs), which I think does the same thing as rkflashtool, except it was written by rockchip themselves
<samueldr>
do you know what the differences are?
<samueldr>
features, hw support? (or reading material is fine too)
<lopsided98>
I haven't used rkdeveloptool for anything other than flashing bootloaders on my RockPro64, and I've never used rkflashtool
<lopsided98>
Rockchip's wiki describes rkdeveloptool as "a opensource version of upgrade_tool with very little difference"
<samueldr>
lopsided98: and this is to flash to the SPI flash, right?
<lopsided98>
AFAICT, it only supports eMMC
<lopsided98>
rkflashtool also seems to be eMMC only, judging from the documentation
<lopsided98>
the only way I have seen to flash SPI is from within Linux or U-Boot
<samueldr>
thanks for looking :)
<samueldr>
"annoying", but not too much, since for allwinner it's also easier to do it via u-boot

you know what samueldr once I patched my dts file for my kernel on the bananapi m64 to turn on gpio uart pins, I also lost my networking, and HDMI video, which is weird because the patch applied no problem and was literally one line
<samrose>
I am investigating it now
<samrose>
(I recalled you ran into this on the PINE 64)
