<LambdaDuck>
__monty__: I don't think it's a question of them wanting it to come first. It's just that what "path_helper" does is to prepend those paths to PATH, so if you're running it after setting up the rest of your path, you'll get them in the beginning.
<__monty__>
Yes. That should've been specifically about /etc/paths vs /etc/paths.d.
<LambdaDuck>
I see
<LambdaDuck>
My paths.d is empty, so I haven't seen those effects.
<__monty__>
There's nothing you can add to /etc/paths.d that'll precede /etc/paths.
<LambdaDuck>
I see
<__monty__>
If /etc/paths wasn't a thing and they added /etc/paths.d/00-defaults instead for example, nix-darwin could easily use that setup to prepend some dirs.
<LambdaDuck>
Oh, yes. That could be nice.
