<domenkozar[m]> ikwildrpepper: fingers crossed for those mac builders :D
<domenkozar[m]> staging builds are pretty heavy these days
<ikwildrpepper> domenkozar[m]: pfrt, are you trying to ruin my day off? :-p
<domenkozar[m]> ;D
<ikwildrpepper> domenkozar[m]: first need to find extra power
<ikwildrpepper> #toomanymacminis
<domenkozar[m]> :D

<garbas> macminis are like command there can be too much and too little of them at the same time :)
<garbas> s/command/commas/
<ikwildrpepper> two macmini's are dead
<domenkozar[m]> :(
<domenkozar[m]> did get caught COVID?
<domenkozar[m]> they*
<garbas> i wonder how much would the repair costs be? not official ofcourse
<domenkozar[m]> probably easiest to tweet out 2 can now be donated
<garbas> I have one macmini "half working" (freezes after an hour of usage) and was considering sending it to some repair shop. and than donating it.
<garbas> maybe sending all 3 might increase chances of getting back one working macmini
<gchristensen> they're very old
<gchristensen> mac1 / mac9 were always dicey whether they worked or not
<domenkozar[m]> gchristensen: btw how many aarch64 machines do we have for hydra now?
<domenkozar[m]> the backlog is pretty big :/
<gchristensen> varialbe based on the spot price
<ikwildrpepper> let's first wait for the bad news from the apple event
<ikwildrpepper> domenkozar[m], garbas: I have one replacement mac already, just need to recover its macos to disable the T2 chip
<ikwildrpepper> depending on the news today, we might order an extra new macmini as well
<gchristensen> oh?
<ikwildrpepper> gchristensen: well, I meant that if they'll only have ARM mac minis from now on, it might not make sense to buy intel ones anymore
<roberth> ikwildrpepper: I've noticed GHC times out all the time now on the macs, for jobs that haven't changed in a way that should affect performance
<roberth> do you have any idea what might cause this?
<ikwildrpepper> roberth: no idea
<ikwildrpepper> dont think much has changed in the macs
<ikwildrpepper> perhaps 20.09 upgrade of the host system
<ikwildrpepper> not sure when that was performed
<roberth> I've seen it work on Sep 22nd fwiw
<domenkozar[m]> [ikwildrpepper](https://matrix.to/#/@freenode_ikwildrpepper:matrix.org) could we buy two new mac minis out of foundation money?
<domenkozar[m]> there's catching up to be done :)
<ikwildrpepper> ?
<ikwildrpepper> definitely getting old, no idea what to do with that link
<samueldr> it'd make sense to build intel mac minis now if they're on the way out as they still will support Intel "for the years to come" according to the unveiling
<samueldr> unless we know the current mac mini builders can help us going "for the years to come"

<ikwildrpepper> LnL: graham was mentioning you might have some experience with macmini+nixos. I'm trying to add a new macmini8,1 we got from someone to the buildfarm, and getting this scary error when running nixos-install: https://lightroom.adobe.com/shares/e94386c92b5249749bf336044119a8ac/albums/c7f9fcf7fd994c45af771eaa68b81b51/assets/cdc19e96d7a142059e01ab6fe00a6718/metadata
<LnL> ikwildrpepper: not particularly, it's been a long time since I messed with that kind of stuff :/
<LnL> ikwildrpepper: but since I see some apci related stuff, maybe try adding acpi=off to the boot options or perhaps something like this? https://github.com/NixOS/nixos-hardware/blob/master/common/pc/laptop/acpi_call.nix
<ikwildrpepper> LnL: will do, thanks for the pointer
