<samueldr>
:/ I'm not comfortable with the pinephone community doing pinephone specific tools, rather than generic tools using the mechanisms they hardcode
<samueldr>
(though that's not your problem, I know :))
<artturin>
powersupply isn't meant to be pinephone specific
<samueldr>
I need to think up something to better control this
<samueldr>
the default should be something that does not look "all hackery", it should be a smooth progression from the OEM logo (when there is one), to the splash, to the DM/DE
<samueldr>
but I *do* want to have it as an option to disable those things for the end-user
<samueldr>
with the default settings, it should be as clean and seamless as those "big boy" mobile OS
<artturin>
:)
<samueldr>
there's also the issue that some vendor kernels (most) will have broken VT consoles
<samueldr>
so there **has** to be something to report during the early boot
<samueldr>
so I've put one and one together, and made it a sensible graphical app to report the boot status
<samueldr>
eww, the helios 64 power cables are of those stinky kinds... the kind where the smell sticks to you even through a good soap handwash and scrub

packaging lisgd seems trivial, is there a reason why it has not happened?

for telephony/modem, a chunk of it is already in Nixpkgs IIRC, I need to get a test line for calls/sms... I only have data on my phone
<samueldr>
but data was tested to work on the Pinephone
<samueldr>
on other devices: not yet
<Ke>
I wish artturin was more active
<Ke>
on irc, I could know what's going on
<Ke>
I don't expect anyone to work more for free obviously
<Ke>
wonder, where should I put my lisgd derivation or if he already has a better one
<Ke>
obviously imo packages should go to nixpkgs
<Ke>
not sure how nixpkgs feels about qfirehose license, but there's probably worse stuff in there
<Ke>
I should really get that pinephone running nixos even if only with serial access
<Ke>
I guess distributing qfirehose build recipe is not a license issues and there is some sort of annotation to not put it in binary caches?
<samueldr>
yes, packages go in Nixpkgs
<samueldr>
well, I was thinking stuff like lisgd
<samueldr>
the other stuff could/should go in Nixpkgs too, but it's a bit more nuanced for things like firmware
<samueldr>
and qfirehose is at the cusp of being considered like the firmware would
<samueldr>
and it's because Mobile NixOS is the project that does the abstraction of the different hardware devices for things liket hat
<samueldr>
like that*
<Ke>
but I guess in old times there were hacks for downloading adobe flash, like on other distros?
<Ke>
where redistribution was not allowed
<Ke>
without putting it in binary caches
zupo has joined #nixos-aarch64
<samueldr>
yeah, that's not really an issue of licensing for that, but more really about where it makes sense to live
<samueldr>
Mobile NixOS doesn't have to wait for a channel bump of Nixpkgs for the hardware description things to be updated
<samueldr>
qfirehose is likely to never need an update, but if it does, it will be living with the firmware
<samueldr>
(we might be able to use bkerler's EDL instead of qfirehose, it's an option to look into at some point)
<artturin>
Emil Karlson: ill put the things i have so far in a repo
<artturin>

I've pulled nixpkgs master and I am trying to build it but something is depending on libcpuid-0.5.0. Which does not support aarch64. I'm attempting to debug it but it is sooo slow in this hardware. Is there some command/trick to figure out what is depending on libcpuid-0.5.0?
<jmc-figueira>
I am interesting in Mobile NixOS and learning about the porting process, but I'm quite new to it. What would be some good resources to learn? Would you recommend the PostmarketOS porting guide? Is it possible to adapt what I learn there to the mobile-nixos toolchain?
