<samueldr> ah, noneucat, false alarm, it doesn't go further, I had made a bad assumption
<samueldr> or the patch is incomplete
<noneucat> darn :( so we will have to build off the pr then
<samueldr> (like, it needs other stuff I stripped from it)
<noneucat> ohh i see
<samueldr> or maybe someone can figure out a partial patch that is better than my naïve approach
<samueldr> like, I definitely don't grok what is going on here :)
<samueldr> what's an opc file?
<samueldr> am I missing an oph header counterpart?
<noneucat> i'm not too sure myself..
<samueldr> :)

<noneucat> it would be great if anyone could look into why suspend is not working on https://github.com/NixOS/mobile-nixos/pull/188 :( currently have no leads

<patagonicus> Hmm. I changed *something* in the way I generate my SD card image and now stage1 claims that the second partition is "not a valid LUKS device". :/
dongcarl9 has joined #nixos-aarch64
<patagonicus> Aha. It's how I write the image to the SD card. I guess the sparse file isn't a great idea.

<sphalerite> patagonicus: can recommend qcow2 if you're going in that direction :D
<patagonicus> sphalerite: I'm mostly trying to minimize how much is written to the SD card as that's probably the slowest part. I thought that conv=sparse would just skip the empty bits, but maybe it didn't seek and just removed them or something.
<clever> sparse try to seek rather than write the output for NUL input blocks
<clever> and then the nulls turn into random garbage
<clever> patagonicus: i think the bigger problem, is that its going to just skip and not write to any block that should be null
<clever> and if the inode table was full of nulls initially.....
<sphalerite> ah so blkdiscard on the device then conv=sparse might work?
<clever> yeah, if discard works on that drive
<patagonicus> It really shouldn't matter, because the image I'm creating has full partition table, fresh file systems, fresh cryptsetup luksFormat … all the bits that are interesting should be overwritten.
<clever> some interesting bits are supposed to be null
<patagonicus> Oh. Right.
<clever> and conv=sparse wont null them out
<patagonicus> Guess I'll go with a script that auto grows on first boot instead and make the image about as big as it needs to be.
<clever> raspbian does that by default, and so does the aws nixos ami
<patagonicus> The nixos sd-image.nix also does it. But I'm not using that because I can't really adapt it for / on LVM on LUKS - easier to grab a few bits. :)
<patagonicus> But growing is a bit more complicated if it's that instead of just ext4 in a partition.
