I'm getting really tired of bind9 locking up every few days. Presumably its some armv7l specific bug, but I kind of just want to switch to something else
<hexa->
authoritative?
<hexa->
if so … try knot-dns?
<lopsided98>
Authoritative and recursive with split horizon

samueldr: i've now had the same error on multiple different ones, and multiple machines :/
<DigitalKiwi>
and multiple channels
<DigitalKiwi>
is the aarch64 server being naughty
<DigitalKiwi>
i thought it might be my network or low disk space which i haven't ruled out yet either though
<DigitalKiwi>
but the rpi is fine

So, diffing the 4.14 Hardkernel config with the Nixos generated config for 5.7.7 shows a few thousand lines of diffs. Anyone got any recommendations for how to cut that down to things that could be related to SATA (via a built in USB3->SATA bridge) isn't working after reboots on Nixos, but does work on Hardkernel's ubuntu? I'm still assuming that
<patagonicus>
it's kernel related, but that might be wrong as well.
<patagonicus>
Maybe I should look at the patches they have first, but just using the Hardkernel kernel with whatever config Nix generates also didn't work.

:O
<patagonicus>
I think I found the relevant patches. Well, I cherry-picked/rebased the commits relating to s2mps11.c from Hardkernel onto mainline 5.7.7 and I just rebooted once and the SATA bridge is working.
<patagonicus>
AFAICT (without looking into it), the commits are about correctly powering off the USB3 on the xu4/hc{1,2} - makes sense that that can break USB3 SATA bridges on reboot.

<samueldr>
there's this (bad) OEM that is infuriatingly responding to support e-mails, except if it talks about getting the kernel sources, where it's radio silence
<samueldr>
I don't know which is worse other bad OEM that says there is no software on the phone, so they can't send it to me, or the one that uses radio silence
<gchristensen>
samueldr: if you need help with that, a member of the foundation has good experience in navigating those waters
<samueldr>
I'm pretty sure I know who, and I had talked to him a bit and I think it's not *that* kind of situation
<samueldr>
though I should probably ask anyway
<samueldr>
but it's because of where the OEM is based
<gchristensen>
if by "*that*" you mean scary letter time, he is usually pretty good at avoiding those
<samueldr>
ah, no, I misphrased that, I think he doesn't deal with that kind of stuff, but I may be wrong

with other things that may be related
