I am using Home-Manager to easily recover my user configurations. But I need to do the same for root, like: vim, bashrc profile. Is it possible to use Home Manager for this? I did try configuring this way: "home-manager.users.root = { pkgs, ... }: { programs.bash.sessionVariables = { HI = "r00t"; }; }; Does not work.
<superherointj>
How can I use home-manager for root?

superherointj: Do you want home-manager for the root user or for system-wide configuration? Which Distribution are you using?
<superherointj>
I am using NixOS and home-manager configuration is saved at /etc/nixos/configuration.nix.
<superherointj>
I am already able to use Home-Manager for my (non-root) user. I want to extend this use to root. So I don't have to bother about keeping discrete backups of .vimrc and .bashrc.

Is there any built in ways to deal with secrets? irssi for example uses a plain text SASL password in the config.
<superherointj>
sszark, you could keep it in an external file (if that helps) - That is what I did for now. But I am also looking after a better solution.
<sszark>
ah, i don't mind having them in the nix store that much. but i most certainly want to keep them off my git repo.
<piegames1>
sszark: If that's your own concern, there are git extensions for having encrypted files locally. If you don't even want the metadata about your secrets, simply use a private git submodule.
