hello is anyone here? i need some help a nixos emacs-overlay issue.
<NobbZ[m]>
I'm here but not sure how long
<zeta_0>
NobbZ[m]: hello there, i was able to install emacs using the nixos emacs-overly, but it installed the latest emacs28 unstable version, but i need emacs27 stable version, is there a simple and easy way to do this, or do i just need to find the correct rev and sha in the commits?
<zeta_0>
adisbladis: if your not too busy, could you help me out as well, with this issue?
<NobbZ[m]>
Afaik 27 is not available anymore in the overlay, now as it is in unstable-channel
<adisbladis>
It is available in the overlay
<adisbladis>
Under the emacsUnstable attribute
<adisbladis>
emacsUnstable just tracks whatever the latest release is regardless of it being a pre-release or not
<adisbladis>
And currently there isn't any active pre-relase
<zeta_0>
adisbladis: ok, so all i need to do is replace `pkgs.emacsGit` with `pkgs.emacsUnstable` in the nix script?
<zeta_0>
adisbladis: sounds good, i'm deciding on whether to use the emacs-overly or to switch my currently stable pkgs emacs to the unstable channel instead, are there any majors differences between the 2 options?
<zeta_0>
note: i'm using home-manager.
<adisbladis>
At the moment, no
<adisbladis>
But when upstream decides it's time for a pre-release emacsUnstable will get upgraded to that automatically
<NobbZ[m]>
xelpa is synced much more often in the overlay.
<NobbZ[m]>
Remember that you can combine both approaches
<zeta_0>
adisbladis NobbZ[m]: ok, thank you for clarifying this, i think that i can go from here.
