<colemickens> turns out, I'd accidentally mounted an old ESP partition on my uboot-only sd card, so uboot was booting a old stale generation I'd accidentally deployed to it

<clever> > You can alter the cma heap size by using for example "dtoverlay=cma,cma-size=402653184" for 384MB. See the overlay's README entry for all the options
<{^_^}> undefined variable 'You' at (string):323:1
<clever> samueldr: that appears to be the recommended way to change cma on the pi
<samueldr> clever: dtoverlay being the firmware's option?
<clever> yeah
<clever> start(4).elf will parse that, apply an overlay, and update a parameter within the overlay
<samueldr> makes sense
<clever> another recent forum post mentioned how the CSI peripheral works overall
<clever> you basically just give it a physical addr, and a raw (still bayer format) image appears there in ram, and you get an irq
<clever> then you need to de-bayer it, and do whatever else you want
<clever> the ISP peripheral can automate debayer and other stuff
<clever> and if the resolution is low enough, hardware h264 encode can then continue

<colemickens> I am not convinced that the NVME in the pinebook is faster than the emmc.
<colemickens> I realize it could be the nvme drive I have but uh, I don't think it was that cheap
alp_ has quit [Ping timeout: 272 seconds]
<samueldr> the eMMc in the pinebook pro is not bad
<samueldr> it's not an SD card
<clever> i think eMMC could get up to 8bit mode, which would double its datarate, compared to an SD card
<clever> at the same clock
<samueldr> though I'm curious if there are benchmarks of NVMe drive, the same unit, in a "known fast" motherboard vs. pinebook pro
<samueldr> also, curious about the number of lanes?
<clever> another trick ive heard of in nvme, you can have multiple command queues, each with its own irq
<clever> the idea, is that each core in the host cpu issues commands to a seperate queue, without having to bother with locking and contention
<clever> and the completion irq goes back to that same core, so whatever wanted it, is still hot in that core's caches
<samueldr> anyways, eMMC is plenty fast with the PBP, I haven't felt the need to use something else
<samueldr> the only reason I'd go with NVMe is to store moar data
<samueldr> but that would imply I'm using the laptop :/
<colemickens> yeah x 3.
<colemickens> I just happened to have a spare nvme drive and wanted the serial port cable so I threw it in. But everything you said is true.
<colemickens> no ragrets though.
<samueldr> hah :) I had the NVMe adapter from the initial purchase
<samueldr> though tbf I also have the 128GB eMMC
