<samueldr> craige: oh, I see it isn't, but it's kind of implied here
<samueldr> >> Using a known-good revision
<samueldr> and craige, yes, you succesfully built an image that does absolutely nothing, successfully!
<samueldr> though yes, I wouldn't mind more specificity about unstable
<samueldr> still, as part of the getting started around the "using a known good revision" some verbiage stating that for the time being it is tracking NixOS unstable would be a good idea
<samueldr> craige: in practice you're at the getty, where you can login with no user or password, but the getty is hidden by an oversight because of the android-based devices where there is no virtual console for gettys

<craige> Thanks samueldr - I'll revisit my local build later today.
<craige> I dropped SD card in with postmarketOS in after my earlier messages and that's an unexpectedly unpleaseant experience.
<samueldr> I haven't tried postmarketOS "for real"
<samueldr> as in, in 2018 I made sure postmarketOS could boot on one of my phone as an experiment
<samueldr> then quickly hacked together something that worked with Nix and NixOS and never spent more time with postmarketOS
<samueldr> (sorry for leaving an unmaintained device behind!)
<samueldr> I wonder what was unpleasant

<craige> The UI. Install was reasonably graceful.
<craige> They keyboard is very laggy. It's hard at this juncture to determine if it's the hardware, the environment or the environment on that hardware :-)
<samueldr> craige: UI post-install then?
<samueldr> I would hazard a guess at environment-on-hardware
<craige> 👍
<samueldr> some of the hw-acceleration might not be "there" just right now
<samueldr> and then some of those environments are quite newly developed :)

<craige> I've finally sorted out consistent charging with it - take the case of because the cable doesn't fit properly :-)
<clever> ive had to trim the usb plug before, to make it fit into my rpi with a case
<samueldr> oh
<samueldr> haha
<clever> just take a sharp blade, and cut the extra rubber off the edges
<samueldr> also note that earlier revisions (not sure about yours) you have to use a dumb usb charger
<craige> postmarketOS's default is Plasma, which is not exactly light. I'll have a better handle when I build a custom image and start running it with nixops 😄
<samueldr> it might not work _at all_ with PD from dead
<craige> It was charging, painfully slowly with another cable enough to eventually boot and install but not for long. It's back up now :-)
<samueldr> yeah, it's something to know about
<samueldr> use a good ol' dumb 2.1A charger
<samueldr> and power it off!
<craige> Oh, I noticed the blueline branch is gone, am I starting from the Pixel2 work if I find time to get back into that?
<samueldr> the blueline branch is gone?
<craige> I couldn't see it :-)
<samueldr> if you do get synced up with colemickens
<samueldr> which blueline branch?
<craige> Any that had blueline in the name.
<colemickens> I think there are two blueline PRs
<samueldr> or to be more clear: from which repo, craige?
<{^_^}> mobile-nixos#191 (by colemickens, 6 weeks ago, open): google-blueline: init
<colemickens> I happen to... unfortunately... have two of them on hand again.
<craige> Ah, then I'll work from those if I get to come back to it. I bought 2 Pixel 3's twelve months ago specifically for this port work :-)
<colemickens> and the fingerprint sensor scanner seems wonky so we may have a whole family here soon. Or they'll just send me a pixel 4 next
<samueldr> craige: I should have accepted your offer to take one for the porting effort at the time :)
<craige> I disabled that in Android. Don't rate that fingerprint feature.
<samueldr> I had hoped you would have had more time for pair figuring-things-out at the time
<craige> I genuinely wanted you to take one :-)
<samueldr> I know :) the way I saw it it was going to be on loan for such a short time it wouldn't be worth the postage headaches
<craige> So did I :-)
<samueldr> though I have a phone which *should* also require DRM for the display
<samueldr> which AFAIK might be a pixel 3 "first" too
<samueldr> so for figuring that we might be good
<samueldr> (hey//woodlh also might have that on the razer-cheryl)
* craige stops playing with Plasma / postmarketOS and revisits his Pine64.nix file...
<samueldr> haha
<craige> Suffice to say, Plasma will not be bu UI of choice. I expect phosh or Elnlightenment, unless there's been more movement in that space
<samueldr> if it's only perfs-based, I'm sure that's a matter of time
<samueldr> but yeah, I understand :)

<craige> I'm playing with the PinePhone builds samueldr - found some bitrot in the demo code which I'll create a PR for later but the show comes to a real stop when building libao as "ar" cannot be found. This is an issue that has been resolved several times over in NixOS (and at least once by yourself) so I was wondering if that was a known issue or one I should dig into?
<ar> I'm here ;)

<polarfire> hi, I'm wondering how I can have my install break a bit less often
<samueldr> your install of what exactly? or maybe on what?
<polarfire> shoul I maybe be pinning nixpkgs on aarch64?
<polarfire> so
<samueldr> right, so I figure NixOS, and what kind of breakage are we talking about?
<samueldr> (just to be sure I'm not assuming the wrong kind)
<polarfire> I'm using your pinebook pro overlay
<polarfire> which works perfectly
<polarfire> but hydra seems to not build aarch64 pkgs very regularly
<samueldr> it is, but it's failing some big ones, which might be what you're seeing...
<samueldr> ... mixed with an implementation detail which made the actual channel decoupled from aarch64 builds
<samueldr> so sometimes it lags behind and still is churning through builds
<polarfire> hmm makes sense
<samueldr> if it's for that reason, pinning might be easier
Thra11 has joined #nixos-aarch64
<polarfire> I've considered getting a local secondary build machine
<samueldr> I've personally been pinning to whatever succeeded to build this https://hydra.nixos.org/job/mobile-nixos/unstable/examples-demo.aarch64-linux.rootfs
<samueldr> as it means firefox has been built
<samueldr> this is totally a workaround though
<samueldr> the real problem has still to be fixed
<polarfire> I'll probably have to do that
<polarfire> samueldr: also, I can see you're pinning unstable, does it offer any advantage on the PBP vs 20.03?
<samueldr> I don't test against 20.03
<samueldr> for the time being
<samueldr> so I guess the advantage is that since I don't track 20.03 for the mobile nixos rootfs you won't get any kind of way to know if firefox is built
