<flokli>
so seems NixOS is a "Major Linux Phone Project" too :-)

samueldr: done!
<mthst>
i installed tianocore on my pi's microSD
<mthst>
it boots nixos on my hdd connected over usb
<mthst>
in fact, it's bouncing this very message
<mthst>
i'm very happy! thanks for all the help!
<samueldr>
mthst:
<samueldr>
🎉
<samueldr>
(seems like ibus lagged a bit)
<samueldr>
tianocore on the raspberry pi is, imho, an hidden gem for generic aarch64 usage

i installed grub in removable mode to the hdd from my nixos system on the microSD, which i later overwrote. i'd like to switch to systemd-boot now that i have nixos booted in efi mode but I can't get rid of grub
<mthst>
can i just rm -rf /boot then nixos-rebuild ?
<mthst>
nevermind, just found out about --install-bootloader
<mthst>
looks like "bootctl --path=/boot install" is failing
<samueldr>
I haven't checked into yet, but I think systemd boot on aarch64 isn't setup to work within nixos
<samueldr>
not sure if it's a nixos issue or a systemd-boot one
<mthst>
with "Failed to open "/nix/store/[...]-systemd-239.20190219/lib/systemd/boot/efi": No such file or directory"
<mthst>
oh, good to know. thanks

oh, forgot to add this morning: if you have questions about the pinephone, I can either answer or ask more informed individuals
<samueldr>
and fun thing not mentioned much is that they are possibly adding i²c pogo pins connectors so that alternative back casings can have some interactivity with the system, making it possible to build a keyboard case
<andi->
O.O
<samueldr>
though not confirmed yet if they can and will, but it's on the table
<gchristensen>
:O
<samueldr>
I'm a bit worried about the reception of that phone... the A64 is not a powerhouse
<samueldr>
but the targetted price range imo makes up for it
<andi->
reception as in customer reception or cell reception?
<samueldr>
customer reception
<samueldr>
the modem is an off the shelf solution unrelated to the Allwinner A64
<andi->
I think it has a well defined target audience. If it is somewhat useful and doesn't die on opening hacker news ...
<samueldr>
though a good thing that'll help is that Lima is getting upstreamed in Linux
<samueldr>
those working more on the initial porting effort got some hw accel going
<samueldr>
to be clear: without the binary blob
<andi->
that sounds neat
<lopsided98>
Do you know how the A64 compares to the Snapdragon 801?
<lopsided98>
(which my current phone uses)
<samueldr>
no idea
<samueldr>
I will surely build a test suite with mobile-nixos as some point to bench mark things
<samueldr>
though already, 801 is 32 bits
<lopsided98>
Based on the clock, it seems like the A64 must be slower, even though the A64 is a newer uarch
<samueldr>
wouldn't really surprise me, after all the 8xx series is the high end top tier for Qualcomm
<lopsided98>
It was the top tier, but its 6 years old now
