also, the first response I got was (don't laugh) ... Wetherspoons. Apparently there's at least one large one (Knight's Templar) that also hosts weddings and the like, in which it would be possible to get a separate room. I'm not sure what kind of atmosphere we're looking for though :)

usually restrictions show up on the "everybody orders for themselves" bit

as in, with a group that large you'll only have access to a subset of the menu

+1 on the social event being large enough. We had to split into groups to different places because of space filling up last year.
