<flokli> re swag: I got feedback on the tshirts and mugs, and need your opinion on colors, shapes and text vs no text: https://trello.com/c/UzY6uTb3/5-swag
<goibhniu> Hi samueldr, how's it going with the graphics for the talks? Is there stuff I can test already?
<samueldr> hi goibhniu, haven't done any progress, but this was on the backburner since there wasn't much to do; haven't been told to change anything
<samueldr> I can send you an exported graphic so you can test things
<goibhniu> Cool ... that video you posted a while back was already looking good anyway
<goibhniu> should I use that for testing, or is there something more recent?
<samueldr> you probable want one with RGBA to test :)
<samueldr> probably*
<goibhniu> yeah, nice
<goibhniu> adisbladis: BTW, the frame grabber I got also seems to be working fine \o/
<goibhniu> adisbladis: did you buy some cables already?
<adisbladis> goibhniu: Yeah I did =)
<adisbladis> Just got back from vacation so haven't had time to test everything yet
<goibhniu> nice!
<samueldr> goibhniu: since I'll be there, if there is the need for any late changes to the gfx compo, it'll be easy enough to figure things out
<goibhniu> samueldr: awesome! I didn't realise that you're going \o/
<adisbladis> zimbatm: There?
<zimbatm> adisbladis: hey
<samueldr> goibhniu: gave you a link with two files, try both; ideally we'd work with the .mov ones, but they are HUGE (being lossless) but do try both, look at CPU use between both, see if there are any positives or negatives with any of the two (and your opinion)
<samueldr> not all video players properly show the alpha on both file formats :/ but IIRC both were usable in obs
<samueldr> and IIRC there are two media source in obs, it only worked with one of the two
<goibhniu> samueldr: excellent, thanks ... I'll give them a shot
<adisbladis> zimbatm: How do I find emails for speakers again?
<zimbatm> adisbladis: look in the program board, the first card is called "DATA SOURCE"
<adisbladis> Oh right. It's in the google docs document.
<zimbatm> it links to a google sheet
<zimbatm> yeah
<goibhniu> samueldr: are you rendering these using a script?
<samueldr> goibhniu: automatisation or bust!
<goibhniu> samueldr: lovely ... is that something you can share?
<adisbladis> Cool =)
<zimbatm> do you guys need access to github.com/nixcon to host scripts for the video?
<samueldr> it will be publicly shared once the event is done (want to keep this under wraps only for the woah effect)
<zimbatm> oh, nevermind :)
<goibhniu> samueldr: ah ok, my bandwidth here isn't great ... I thought it might be best to generate them myself
<samueldr> ah, that's a possibility, though we have time to think this over
<samueldr> obviously it uses nix for the whole scripts, so even with a week's notice it should be simple to start the scripts :)
<samueldr> as for the tools, I wrote a big hack, a whole "flash like" scene graph for SVG in react with a timeline and such, which exports svgs, which then use inkscape to export pngs, using ffmpeg to stitch them into a video...
<samueldr> ... using existing things (like adobe animate) wasn't possible due to bugs with it (and poor automatisation)
<goibhniu> hah ... you legend
<samueldr> it kinda got out of control :) but it actually worked out great in the end
<samueldr> took about a week to get the tooling ready
<goibhniu> it looks great
<samueldr> the best part is that it's generic enough to last, and could become more in the future :)
<goibhniu> did you consider using blender instead?
<goibhniu> (just curious)
<samueldr> yes, but that meant I would have had to learn a tool I knew *nothing of* while I knew composing SVGs that way would work
<goibhniu> cool
<samueldr> though I did consider it
<samueldr> too many unknowns: would I have been able to do tricky stuff to work around some issues? how good is it with rendering text? embedding data from misc. datasource?
<adisbladis> zimbatm: You had done some special arrangement with garbas?
<goibhniu> yeah, if you're not already familiar with it, it's got a big learning curve ... I'm sure you could do nice things with it though
<samueldr> while it won't show anything useful, there's a screenshot of the tool https://stuff.samueldr.com/screenshots/2018/09/20180910115049.png
<zimbatm> adisbladis: is he missing from the list?
<zimbatm> I did talk to him directly
<adisbladis> zimbatm: He is in the list but does not have a ticket in eventbrite
<goibhniu> samueldr: I hope you'll do a lightning talk about it :D
<zimbatm> adisbladis: can you check the more expensive tickets? the ones at 150
<adisbladis> Yeah he is not there
<zimbatm> okay, I'm going to ping him
<zimbatm> done
<adisbladis> Ok. I'll email the rest of the speakers that do not have tickets yet
<zimbatm> adisbladis: I should add you to the orgateam mailing list
<zimbatm> one sec
<zimbatm> so if people reply we all know
<adisbladis> Ok
<zimbatm> adisbladis: ok added
<zimbatm> I don't think we can send out emails directly from the group so you'll have to CC it
<zimbatm> (unless it's a reply from an external user)
<zimbatm> the group is supposed to act like a shared inbox
<manveru> adisbladis: yo, i have tickets, they're just under another email address :)
