emily: No. Python needs to be bumped to 3.8.7, at the very least. That hasn't even hit master yet, let alone the channels.

other than that, everything else I've encountered in nixpkgs-unstable is working for me on Big Sur. I've been using it now for over a month.

I'm trying to build nix itself, using flakes, but it can't link for some reason.

The nixpkgs it's pinned to (some rev of nixos-20.09-small) fails early during configure testing the compiler. So I was trying on recent revs of unstable and staging-next here, both of which fail this way.
