<elvishjerricco> Oh. Hah, I was bootstrapping a new machine. Did so by installing nix, `nix copy`-ing the system after building it from my other mac, and running `activate` myself. Turns out not setting the /nix/var/nix/profiles/system profile breaks it.

<thefloweringash> Hmm, I'm seeing nix-darwin activating '~/Applications` as root, making `/var/root/Applications` and not one in my user directory. This isn't expected, right?

<nkaretnikov> i'll ask again here in case the message got lost on #nixos. does anyone have any experience with running haskell gloss applications on macos via nix? for me, it just shows a black canvas. i'm currently trying to patch GLURaw and OpenGLRaw haskell packages to use the OpenGL framework. not sure whether it'll work or not. otherwise i'm out of ideas
* cransom should find himself in london wednesday morning.
<cransom> and i'll hang my figurative hat at the blackfriars ibis
<nkaretnikov> yep, that didn't work :(
<nkaretnikov> okay, the issue seems to be with OpenGL framework not being present in the output of otool -L for the executable build via nix
<nkaretnikov> built*

<mightybyte> LnL: Oh sorry...got pulled away yesterday. The value of lib.nixpkgsVersion is "18.03pre130569.7a04c2ca296"
<LnL> well, that was merged in march so that's probably why

<mightybyte> LnL: How do I upgrade that?
<LnL> what channel are you using?
<mightybyte> $ nix-channel --list
<LnL> and sudo -i nix-channel --list?
<mightybyte> Do I have to do the upgrade as sudo?
<LnL> yeah, nixpkgs is managed by root in a multi-user install by default
<LnL> so you have to use sudo to update that
<mightybyte> Ahhhh
<mightybyte> I figured nix-darwin was doing it
<LnL> no, nothing gets updated behind your back
<mightybyte> Ok, good to know
<mightybyte> Looks like that did it. Thanks!
<LnL> you can move it to your user if you don't care about having it available to other users on the system
<mightybyte> I think this is fine. I just didn't know how to update things.
<LnL> yeah, there's not really a difference but it's slightly more convenient

<uri-canva> I'm waiting for https://hydra.nixos.org/job/nixpkgs/trunk/bazel.x86_64-darwin to be built, it was queued 3 days ago, and I noticed in https://hydra.nixos.org/queue-summary there's 39k jobs queued for darwin machines. Is there's a growing backlog? How long is the estimated queue time at the moment?
