<Mic92> Profpatsch: it spawns a nix-shell so stuff can be tested locally.
<Mic92> It does not do anything special regarding this.
<Mic92> After all I intended nix-review to be used for not just building but also testing the changes. Because just when something builds does not mean it actually works.

<clever> pie__: reading further, it makes sense that snapshot names are in the clear
<clever> pie__: you need to be able to delete snapshots (and volumes) without having the keys on-hand
<clever> otherwise, you have to destroy the entire pool to get the space back
<clever> it also mentions send|recv can transfer encrypted datasets, without decrypting!
<pie__> hm
<pie__> i mean it all probably makes sense but
<clever> oops, meant to go in #nixos as well
<pie__> oh oops :D

<domenkozar[m]> there goes 100h of our time :D
<arianvp> Oh noooo
<arianvp> 😂
<arianvp> Well I guess we could perhaps make stdenv bootstrap a bash as fast as possible and use that instead?
<arianvp> :/
<arianvp> Then we don't need to worry about compatibility issues
<domenkozar[m]> afaik we do that already
<LnL> yeah, we won't have any problems except for possibly some exceptions if they also changed /bin/sh

<Profpatsch> Mic92: And the nix shell contains every reverse dependency?
orivej has joined #nixos-dev
<Mic92> Profpatsch: It adds every package attribute that has changed or has been added.
<Profpatsch> ok
<Mic92> It is not able to detect if the change was due to a reverse dependency update or the attribute itself was updated.

<gchristensen> FYI: I was going to do mac maintenance yesterday, but wasn't able to as I lost access to the infra in a server move. after some BGP fiddling, I regained access and will do it tonight

<Mic92> gchristensen: in which datacenter you have to maintain your own BGP sessions?

<andi-> I was thinking s/NPM/GitHub/ when I first read the transcript a few days ago
<samueldr> any place you're not in control of the name, thus able to control how and where it is hosted, is a trap
<samueldr> well, domain names are not a panacea, but are just enough control for the need
<andi-> Yeah :/ everything isn't great :)
